15 Gallon Fuge Build

This week has been a bit crazy and haven’t had time to plumb the new fuge to the system but, I really need to get it done soon.

For clarification, that huge mass of grape caulerpa is in the DT. It will be moved to the fuge after I get it plumbed to the system.

Water flowing flawlessly. Letting temp stabilize and will then move some Caulerpa over. The light is an Phlizon 200 watt grow light from wbay.

Small amount of Caulerpa added. Tomorrow, I’ll clean all remaining Caulerpa from the DT and put some of it in the fuge. The rest will go in the compost.

Well, crap. Noticed some water on the floor behind the fuge last night. Assumed it was the threaded fittings. Tightened them up and checked 30 minutes later and no water. Woo hoo.

Checked this AM and water on the floor again. All fittings and plumbing are dry?!?! Looked under the stand and, I believe, one of the silicone seams on the bottom back of the tank is leaking. This is weird because, knowing this is a really old tank, I water tested and then let it sit with water for about a week with no leaks. Plumbed it yesterday and it’s suddenly leaking🤷🏻‍♂️

Petco having 50% off tank sale so I went there to get a new 15 and none in stock. Checked Petco and PetSmart websites and neither list a 15 gallon???? Checked Pet Supplies Plus website and they have a 15 listed but, “Low Stock.” Do they just not sell 15s at those stores or did Aqueon stop making them?

I haven’t seen 15s in a looooong time locally
Hmmm, I’m not paying $40 for a 15 from Pet Supplies Plus. I may just decommission this and wait until after the upgrade to figure something out.

I’m not sure what the heck is going on but, after I made my last post, I’m not seeing water on the floor???? Granted, whatever was/is leaking is a very slow leak but it’s been hours and no water on the floor🤷🏻‍♂️

I think I narrowed it down. Was monkeying with the bulkhead for the overflow…I could narrow the leak to a trickle or a waterfall but, could not stop it altogether.

So, I think there’s a defect. Unfortunately, the closest LFS with bulkheads is closed for the night and closes before I get home tomorrow. I’ll try to pick one up Tuesday and get it fixed.

I swear, sometimes I feel like if I didn’t have bad luck, I’d have no luck at all🤣

Finally figured it out. When I drilled the tank many years ago, did a 2” hole which means a 1.25” bulkhead. I had (way back then) put a 1” bulkhead in. So, despite checking closely, I was missing where the leak was…the bulkhead.

Now, the dilemma, 1.25” bulkheads are hard as hell to find.

If it helps, there’s plenty on Amazon that appear to get good reviews but they’re not name brand

Thanks Shane. I did check on Amazon and saw that as well. I just need to figure out which one to order. I really struggle with Amazon's format for some reason. I find locating a good description of items very difficult. For example, the bulkheads I looked at last night didn't specify the hole size for them or the FPT size. Granted, I only did a cursory search as I was doing other things at the same time.

Okay, need a little help here. According to BRS I need a 1.25" bulkhead for the 2" hole (51mm) hole in the tank. But, all the 1.25" bulkheads I'm finding on Amazon state they need a 2.5" or greater hole????? Of course, the 1.25" bulkheads have been discontinued by BRS.

Any suggestions?

Digging through my plumbing supplies, I have a 1” schedule 80 bulkhead (no idea where I acquired that) but, it’s the same size as the other 1” bulkhead I had installed. So that’s not going to work. I think I need to find some 1.25” ABS bulkheads that BRS used to offer but, no luck so far.

I think I’m going to scrap the whole 15 gallon.

I might look at either a 10 or 20 long that I can drill for a standard bulkhead size.
