150 build

Well i fixed all the leaks and after everything my OM was making a thumping sound. They are great there he todl me waht to do to fix and everything works. Apparently you can tighten the threads in so far to jam the mechanism, in doing so i stripped one :headwally: so now i need to replace that... but i was able to shut off the valves and at least run the return pump and see if my crazy idea for a return worked and here is what we got  (sorry for the bad quality all i had was a cellphone at the time)

Finally catching up eh?!

Glad it's leak proof now and ready for some salt! What's the plan now?

I keep looking at your plumbing, wondering how the hell you came up with it. It's incredible man!

Salt still needs time. Still need to move it out of the garage finish fine tuning it, heater placement, aquascape and create directional flow, order sand, fill with RODI and then cycle... need lights at some point but ill see haha

Thank guys appreciate it. Hopefully into home and see it still fill and no water on the floor

I guess when I slack off on my fish tank, and forget to remind you to update your build, nothing gets done! Hahah, lets see some finished plumbing!

haha thanks nonameben. plumbing is all done. i am actualyl on hold as studying for boards got in the way so i can only do 1 day per week to the fish tank so im now moving realyl really slow. hopefully ill be able to get it moved and get some water in it within the next two weeks

Thanks I guess its been a while since i have updated.... plans got slightly delayed when the tank bowed too much for me to be comfortable so i went with glass bracing so that had to be ordered, but im on track. Its filled just got to finish the lights and clean up. Guess some quick pictures are in order

wow the eurobrace really cleans up the look of the tank. All fancylike! Well done. Im building a 150 right now too, just poked the holes in it on Saturday, your plumbing job was pretty inspirational.

Any updates on this? Can you go a little in depth on the euro brace? I really want to do this to mine(same size tank). Are they below the lip of the tank or on top, what size glass? How did you you remove the original trim and braces? I also want to do an internal/external overflow modeled after yours too...vry clean. How did you bod the acrylic overflow box to the glass? Is it supported by something?

Yes sorry. I have been working on it slowly. and ran into some minor problems but they all seemed straightened out. I need a better pictures but this is one with the lights on.

The only thing I am going to change are the returns and add a wave maker to the system but other than that it works like a charm.

As for the euro brace my tank has a floating bottom and i kept the tank frame on it. If i had removed it i mostly likely would have had to add a euro brace to the bottom. But since I didnt i only had to add it to the top of of the tank. The braces are 3" wide around the trim and the center braces are 6" wide. The glass is 1/2" thick. There is 1/16" space between the side and front and rear braces to allow for proper silicone bonding

As for the way to remove the old braces get a long blade and run it along the outside and inside edge of the old braces. This will cut the silicone and allow you to pry off the old braces. Then you have to remove completely all of the old silicone with a straight blade and acetone. Do this until its clean or the new silicone wont stick. Then i cleaned with denatured alcohol and then applied a layer of silicone (RTV 108). Applied the braces with a combination of clamps to they were pressed evenly and let dry. I let sit for almost a week. I then added water the the tank 25% at a time. And allowed two days in between adding water. This made the tank humid and increased curing of the RTV. That's it. Its relatively simple just take your time

The overflow is not supported by anything. The inside one was just siliconed into place and let sit. The water should prevent it from falling by the natural buoyancy of the water. As for the external i glued it on with a glue called "E-6000." Stuff is strong. and after it glued it i lined the inside and outside seam with RTV. Has held. I also drilled the holes for bulkheads before assembly. The pipes slightly hold up the overflow so i imagine this does provide some support for it.

Hopefully ill get around to updating it some more after i finish updating the returns
