150 gallon tank. closed loop system, 55 gallon sump with 3 foot of DSB lots of macro algae and three mangroves. the tank wtih have about 2500 to 3500 GPH turn over with the closed loop and sump return. 200 pounds of live rock, already established for over 5 years. various soft corals, zoas, LPS as wellI was wondering if this group of fish (if all bought small) will work in my tank.

copperband butterfly fish

powder blue tang

naso tang

achilles tang

canary blenny

scotts wrasse

some type of anthias

two OC clowns

mandarin

PLUS the blue hippo and sailfin should be okay (i already have them in a 75)? or is that to many Tangs?

no on the naso and achilles, both need bigger tanks IMO.

the copperband may eat some of your coral, but everything else should be fine. Powder blue tangs can sometimes be difficult and pretty mean as well

the naso I would get would only be 2-3" starting out with plans of upgrading or selling the fish within 3 years.

what other tangs do you suggest for a 150 other than the naso and achilles? wasnt really sold on the achilles I have heard they are a tough fish.

I also heard that about powder blues.. heard that it just seems to depend on the actual fish to determine if they are the mean and bully type. would it be wrong to assume powder brown tangs are the same?

Do not buy any fish that requires an planned upgraded or a sell off within x amount of time.

If you do indeed upgrade later on then you can buy the bigger fish.

Different fish will have different personalities, although for the better part, the PBT is a nasty bugger.

Yellow, purple, kole or tomini are nice candidates.

That is a MASSIVE stock list for a 150g. I woulsn't add any more tangs than the 2 you have already got. They are a very 'messy' fish and your bio load will go through the roof.

I don't think it's an unreasonably huge list, it's just a lot of tangs which the OP seems aware of. Like others have said, the Achilles and Naso get too big for this tank. Consider 1 to 2 tangs tops...I see plenty of people also choosing to go with 3 of the smaller tangs for 150's as well (ie. something like a Tomni, yellow and a convict). Personally, in my 150g, I'm going to go with 1...a powder brown.

There's a lot of nice fish out there, but at first I was the same way and focused in on tangs a lot. Also, as others have noted the CB can be a pain also. If you want a butterfly, check out the Pyramid. Also, consider a dwarf angel, or even some of the Genicanthurus genus angels. That should get you some of the open water swimmers you are looking for.
