150 Gallon Tank Build!

I guess I have been lucky. Im going to wait a couple months and then finish the stocking of fish.

I am trying to soften up my wife for a QT tank though, but it will take a bit ;)

Here is something interesting. I went to my LFS tonight to pick up the Ecosmart controller to replace the old controller that came with my MP40. The pump was making a pretty good racket when I turned it up. I had the pins adjusted right, and fiddled with the wet side until I had the sweet spot. Still loud (isn). Its was a lot louder than the ones running on the tanks at my LFS. I bought a new wet side as a spare, and a repair kit for the wet side I got with the MP40 from FEE BAY.

It took maybe 5-10 minutes to change the controller over to the Ecosmart. Now the pump is unbelievably QUIET. I didnt move the MP40 at all. Only replaced the controller.

Weird, or what?

This is just the beginning.

Be very careful. I have a 180 gl and here are my red mushrooms, toadstool leather, and hairy mushroom after a full eight months.
Stray shrooms I load in a plastic container with some rubble and when they stick I plant them where i want them. Pop offs are a good sign of them producing....tank is good . My toad is a bit over 14in now, almost taking up too much room. Will have to scape that into my center piece.

hairys are an easy grow, I first fed them veggie pellets and a mysis shrimp every other day or so, now they are hitting 5-6 in across. My clowns host them now.

This hobby is very addicting. I went from buying dresses and shoes, to fish and corals.

Another alternative is if you have mushrooms/Zooas that spread onto other rubble, trade it for other corals. Some people have stocked about 50% with stuff they traded.

Awesome pics Coral Beauty!!

Im thinking I will be redoing my tank soon. With my current aquascaping it looks more like a cichlid tank than a reef lol

I need to get some different types of rocks, and break some of the ones I have now. They are just too big and I get stuck with where I can actually put stuff.

Im slowing down on the stocking as some of my LPS are already starting to grow new heads.

I am well aware of the addiction.

I used to think about going fishing all winter.....now I have my hand in my own private ocean lol

Decided to change my rock work again. 3rd time might be the charm. I haven't had experience with coral arrangement and I found both my previous arrangements looked ok but left very little good spots to put coral and leave it space to grow.

I tried to make it good for fish as well as easy to place my euphyllia.

I think this is much better

I'm glad I did because I found a eunicid worm. Sadly, he didn't make it ;)

Went frag shipping today. I don't even know the proper names yet. One is apparently rare.

Also picked up this awesome mimic tang. He fits right in!

Here's some pics

The rare one

Well…..

I looked in my tank today.

And my Hippo Tang and Foxface appear to have ich.

Wonderful.

I also looked at one of the frags I picked up the other day from a hobbyist.

RED BUGS.

So tonight I am setting up my 75g as a QT, and am putting a canister on it (Ill clean it out every 4-5 days.

Ill be getting the interceptor tomorrow. The thing is - I have a couple of acro crabs I have seen. Where do they go during the interceptor treatment?

Sorry about the ich. Your tank looks great but you have moved pretty quick on stocking. I have had my 50g up and running now for about seven weeks and only have a handful of fish. Doesn't it make you nervous to add so much at once?

I love watching people's build threads. I hope your fish improve and look forward to seeing pics in the future.

Where did you buy your rock at? I really like what you've done and the wife and I were wanting to steal some ideas....

I wasn't afraid to add a bunch of livestock at once. I tested every day or 2 and the ammonia and nitrite never moved above 0. Im going to add 2 or 3 small fish and call it a day for stocking lol.

The ich is pretty bad on my hippo tang, but Im feeding them lots of nori and mysis. Im setting up a 75 as a QT and will go that route, which sucks.

Ive talked to a lot of people around my area that are telling me that they have QT fish, left tanks fallow for 4 months, put the fish back in, and they get ich again. I think what did me in on the ich was a large WC I did the other day.

Im going to wait and see how the hippo does over the next day or 2 and see if it gets better.

As far as my rock - I got a lot of the base rock from Mail Order Pet supplies here in Hamilton, Ontario. Its just Marco Rock. I have 90 some pounds of it. I then added about 40 lbs of Tonga and Fiji Live rock. The substrate is aragonite. I went in and hand picked all the pieces. Much more fun than just ordering it ;)

Ill keep you all in the loop regarding what I do on the ich situation. Thats part of the reason I added so many fish at once. To try to avoid it.

On the other hand, my corals are doing great lol.

Oh, and I DO NOT have Red Bugs. They are Tigger Pods! Woohoo. He feeds them to his mandarin, which is also in the frag tank. Thats a relief.

Im going to be picking up a 6 line wrasse or yellow wrasse today so I have all my fish before QT if I go that way.

Ick is not really getting better, as I knew it wouldn't. Im not sure why I have been resisting doing a QT. Its the only shortcut I have taken, and look what happened.

Amateur hour for sure.

Ill be setting it up tomorrow (a 75g), and then going fish hunting in my tank.

Funny. The LFS told me to buy a cleaner wrasse to take care of the ick. Right…..

I have moved all the fish into the 75 g QT and am doing 20-30% WC until the sponge filters catch up and can handle the bioload. I added cupramine the first day, but the fish acted a bit funky so I changed out 50 gallons. Now its day 4, and I added about 1/3 the first dose.

The Display tank itself is now LOADED with pods and other crazy stuff. I cant believe how many are in there now. They are all over the glass, the rocks, the substrate. EVERYWHERE!!

Will update in a few days
