150 gallon too heavy?

I saw one of those 150 gallon deep dimension tanks for sale and i'm thinking about getting it. I am renting part of a 2 family house and there is basement underneath my part of the house. The dimensions of the tank are 36"x36"x27" so it'll spread out the ~1700 pounds a little bit but I'm not sure its a good idea to put something that heavy on anything but slab. Opinions?

Hopefully I'm being overly cautious because i found a great deal on the tank and stand.

it all depends on the way the floor is built. If its a much older house I would say dont try it without reenforcing the joists and bracing them in the basement. A newer house may be ok but still a little bracing may help you to sleep better. What size joists were used and how far apart are they spaced?

I see. I did some research last night and figured out a house around the block is built in 1936 and my house is squeaky and the floor is very old. Theres even those holes (now patched) in the floor of some of the rooms where steam radiators would've been. I think its safe to say I can't get this tank, which really stinks, because at a LFS near me they're selling the starphire one with stand and canopy for about $1100, which is about $500 off. Rats.

I suppose i could ask my landlord but I'm pretty sure theres another apartment down there so i doubt they'd let me do it.

Personally I would put that big of a tank anywhere on the first or second floor of a house without reinforcing the floor unless the floor underneath the tile or hardwood is concrete (usually only custom houses)

1700+ pounds is pushing it

150 gallon on first floor, did the same thing.Used floor jacks from the depot with some 4x4s.No bounce t all when walking by it.House was built in the 50s.

Save your money!

Save your money!

Don't get into salt water, save your moola and buy a house.

You will be light years ahead, may preserve your sanity (that's a gimme from me to you), and after you have lived in your house a while and run out of stuff to fix, THEN get into salt water.

Thanks for the advice but you're about 2 years too late! LOL

Its cool, I think i'm going to stick with my original plan which was a 2' cube. The lights and skimmer will be cheaper anyway!

Sorry, i should have been clear more clear. I can't get down to the basement because that is not part of my space.
