GAC is granular activated carbon. Yes, you can get results by running just carbon. It won't be as good as ozone, but it will help alot. Just make sure to change it evey 2 weeks or it can start to hurt (becomes detritus trap and more).
and 150w on 24" deep may be pushing it, though as long as you keep you bulb close to the water (not 8-10 inches as standard). My 150 on my 20" deep tank is maybe 5 inches (give or take) off the water, probably less. Keep you sps towards the middle/top of the tank and you'll probably be ok.
