150gal Zeo

Thanks John, that's the exact same bulb configuration I'm using now :) (1/2 Blue - 1/2 BlueSpec) I'm also thinking of using some KZ Fiji or ATI PP. I'll let you know what my experiences are when I decide to use them.
The Zebrasoma's really complete the tank. A suggestion for a green coral; maybe a green slimer will look nice on the center island left to the pink Prostrata :)

Well, who ever changes out the tubes first let the other guy know, LOL.
I am thinking to change mine the first week of Oct.

The tangs have settled in, and cruise the tank in a pack a 5, with the other two shortly to follow. All are eating new life Spec with sea veggies for a snack.

I do have a few frags of my old green slimers, tucked away in the back of the tank, but I was thinking if I can find one, a green millipora.

But that could change once I go to the LFS and they have a shippment in,

:lolspin:

SO i am looking for some ideas for the lighting of my frag area.

Its on the left hand side of the pictures, and the area is 18 x 20 x 8in water depth.

I was first thinking t5s, but then thought about a 150wt mh. then

I seen those vipers 70wt but wasnt sure if they would be worth it or not.

LED did come to mind as well, LOL. pretty much any kind of light came to mind, but i cant nail anything down.

any ideas ???????

Looks great! I'm wondering why you didn't go the LED route (like aqua illumination)? Changing 10 bulbs every 3 months (about $1K/year) is quite expensive. Spending about $3K on led which has a life of about 10 years is much cheaper.

Some math:

ATI 10 T5 fixture: $1300
Cost of T5 bulbs / yr replaced every 3 months: (10pcs x $25 x 4 quarters) $1000
Total cost for 10 years (not including electricity): $11300

Aquatic Illumination 6-module: $3300
Total cost for 10 years (not including electricity): $3300

Savings: $8000 (or $800/yr -- think more corals and fishes ;) )

I would go with t5 as that is what is over the display tank.

Thanks for the reply, I am thinking a four tube 24wt, should do the trick

Nice tank!

Thanks Adddo

Thanks for the info, I had went over this a few times in my head and on paper when buying new blubs :hmm3:
, I must say that this was on my previous system, and not my current one.
The new system will be changed out every 6-8 months.

Who changes T5bulbs every 3 months? Is that normal?

John, didn't know you had a thread on here too... I think you'll like the look of replacing one of the ATI Aquablue Specials with a KZ fiji purple.

I used 3 months as john mentioned that he changes the bulbs every 3 months earlier in the thread.

Ok just to update based on changing the T5 bulbs every 6 months:

ATI 10 T5 fixture: $1300
Cost of T5 bulbs / yr replaced every 6 months: (10pcs x $25 x 2/year) $500
Total cost for 10 years (not including electricity): $6300

Aquatic Illumination 6-module: $3300
Total cost for 10 years (not including electricity): $3300

Savings: $3000 (or $300/yr)

No, it definitely wasnt the norm. The tubes were changed 4 times that year.

yeah, I have a few threads going eh. Haha.
I am pretty pleased with the results of the tubes thus far, so I cant wait to try out a purple in the mix.

Hey everyone, abit of an update. so I have been busy with the tank the last few days.
I did something that I thought I would never do, i got a CLAM, me and clams dont have the best relationship, so when one came avaible through another reefer who was living in the same building as me, I thought to give it a try.

Its mounted up high on a rock and off the sand bed in hopes that SPS will kinda crowd it as they both grow, well see what happens
afews other made the tank this past weekend as well.

monitipora nodosa
green caulastrea
kinda blue green millepora, its still to new to tell which way it will go
crayloa tabletop, which I think is going to go staight green, which would be cool. I have pics, and that one too is dark, but give it two weeks in zeo and well see.

tested the p04 tonight and its down to zero, which I am very pleased as the new tangs have been getting fed everytime I pass the tank.

Kh dosing is 25g and 34g per night.
Ca is a steady go between 42g and 28g per morning.

I am still doing it manually.

ok pictures.

you can kinda see half the clam in this one, as well the nodosa and the cauly

Do you dose Zeo directly into your display? or just the Kh? Your dedication to this system is truly evident...stunning colors and so clean. Congrats...I hope to be as successfull someday. -Joe B.
