150w HQI emergency!!!!!! Need help!!!!!

I just blew a 150w DE HQI today. I ordered a new one but it will take 7 to 10 days to arrive. I am worried about the health of my corals. Would anyone happen to have an old bulb lying around that I could use just to get me by until I get my new one? Thank you.

If you still have the other side operating you will be ok. just watch out how long you run it when the new one comes in. You may want to shade it a bit. But if the other side is working you should be okay......depending if your sps's are under the lit side or not.

The birdsnest is under the dark side, but all other sps's are under the good light. Xenia, mushrooms, star polyps, toadstool, and trumpets are under the dark side.

I would not be too concerned....if you can move the birdsnest to the other side I would. The other will be just fine getting some wash light from you other good side. Did you order from illuming.com? I have found that they generally have the best prices.

I ordered from Web Aquatics Inc. I bought the cheapest 150w 14k bulb as a temporary quick fix. I am either buying two Pheniox 14k or two XM 15k bulbs. The 15k are new to XM and I do like the bluer look.

When I get new bulbs, do I need to be concerened about pulse start or electronic start?

Yes, the bulb type has to match your ballast type or it will not work.

Why not just alternate the bulb between the ballasts until you get a new bulb?

i am doing that now. ronkent suggested it to me. i run electronic balasts. will the pheniox work?

hqi Will only run on hqi ballast.....so you will be good to go.

Got my new light on Friday and all's well. The old light was labled as a 14k buld, but I think the company was on crack or something. It was actually a 20k bulb. The new one is a 14k and it matches with the other one. The old bulb was so blue.

Sticky: My sis is probably shutting down her tank because she just bought a new home and is working three jobs and has no time for taking care of her tank. Will the PC lighting work for a frag tank? And will a V-Lionfish be okay in the systaem or no? If not, I have a possability of a trade.

I have not seen a lion fish in a reef system..so I would not. Bepending on what you would keep in the frag system pc could work....but not for sps.
