158g Fowlr

Zoas might not last. They are one of the few soft corals I find that puffers and even triggers destroy. My puffers did not eat them but seemed to find it fun to bite them and spit them out. All of them!

I'd start checking Craigslist and your local fish store bulletin boards and marine/reef clubs right away. I agree with justin, a 180 would be a great size, with a foot more swimming room. I got my 210 from my mom when she had to give it up, and it's a little too high for me to work in comfortably (I'm 5'5). a 180 is a fairly common "big" tank, and it shouldn't be too hard to find a decent deal if you keep looking. I had a 125 I loved and I practically gave it away because I didn't want to have to move it from MN to NC.

Yeah, I know I can find something else if I'm patient and look around enough. I'm just going to kind wait and see what happens. I will probably go with a 180 or 210 if this doesn't work out.

The only thing I don't like about the 210 is the height. I would love a tank that was around 210G but 8' x 2' x whatever that leaves for height. Maybe around 20" though. Of course that would have to be custom. I was looking into getting a custom acrylic 8' tank built that was reasonable at $700 but my puffers would just destroy it.

Good luck!

:sad1: Okay. My friend has officially backed out. I'm not upset though. we become attached to our pets, and he says he simply cannot bear to let it go. I think what did him in was when I took those pictures, so my wife could see it and decide where she will let me put it in the house. So, I am on the long, slow hunt for another set up, or one from scratch. I will keep you posted. There are some nice 180G I have seen.

Well, looks like you are all dressed up with no place to go. Better get looking! ;) I can't blame your friend either, it is a really nice tank. Why was he wanting to sell it? Maybe you can capitalize on his guilt, and get him looking for a tank for you. :)

Oh man Im sorry to hear this :( Thats really, really too bad. I do understand him wanting to keep it but why would you ever put it up to begin with? Thats not very fair at all, IMO. I would be pretty upset. Especially if I had kids and they had been excited as well.

Hope you find one soon. Too bad your not closer. I have a 210G sitting in storage right now because its too big for my condo. I would have sold it to you for sure.

he wanted to sell it because he says he wanted to simplify his life with older kids in sports he is coaching. But he says when he saw those pictures, he realized he couldn't let it go. But I am playing his "guilt guitar". he is going to give me abunch of free frags for my 75G, and he's on the look out for a deal on a tank/set up. I am disappointed, but i do understand.

Yeah man, I am disapointed, my boys will be too. but, such is life I guess. I'll be on the lookout for another one. And, that is just my luck, your so far away with a very nice tank in storage. wanna see Texas?;) :lmao:

I have a 5' 120 that I need to get rid of. Not to torture you or anything, but I told a girl she could have the tank, stand and sump for $100 if she would pick it up. :)

:hmm4: Not trying to torture me???? lol. that was a wonderful deal though. opefully I'll run into something similiar.

I'll check my schedule and see if I can find time to bring the tank down in the next few days

I actually brought that tank with me from Miami to Vancouver when I moved. I drove through Texas to get here, so the tank has actually been very close to you! Small world sometimes.

I really hope your kids are not too disappointed. :( How old are they if you don't mind me asking? Sorry if thats too personal, I just feel really bad for them. I think having kids around aquariums and animals in general is such a good, healthy thing, especially if they take interest.

justin's done all the work, all you need to do is take out your wallet!

Yeah I feel bad for him and especially his kids!

I also found some in Austin but I don't know if he wants to go that far. I found a couple good deals even farther in Houston too. :)

Justin, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your researching through CL for me! I guess great minds think alike, because I was doing the exact same thing. I reached out to one of those sellers, and some others I found on CL as well. Austin is only an hour away, so I have no issues going there for a good deal. there are several good lfs that may give me a good deal too.

And I really do not mind talking about my kids, I am a "proud papa" In fact, my two most favorite subjects are my kids and aqauaria. The oldest is 5, and the other one is 3. The 5yo was dissappointed. he loves my 75G, to the point he can watch it for hours, and is very excited to see the critters that come from the live rock. The 3yo is still a little young to be dissapointed over it, really, he was only upset because his brother was. He does love the 75G though, and they both are always asking me to go online and show them pictures of puffers and other fish and animals. I agree with you man, it is healthy for them to have a passion about something.

and iin the meantime, if you wanted to visit the Alamo, lmk...ROFL

The 540G is nice and big. But Lisa, the wife would not allow me to open the wallet that wide. Besides, no space to put such a big aquarium.

Yeah that 540G is a LOT of money. It sounds like a great deal actually but you have to be able to spend so much money at once :(

:D

You know I do really want to come back to Texas one day. I only passed through very fast and never got a chance to visit.

Your kids are a great age to start learning about aquariums and its really nice that they are interested. Man they are going to be excited when you guys get your puffer!!! No more need to see pics on the net, they will be able to just walk over to the tank!

Keep us updated on the tank search...
