16,000 gallon reef tank!!! (Second biggest in the world)

I live only about twenty minutes from Atlantis aquarium in Riverhead, New York. This tank never ceases to amaze me, it's the second biggest reef tank in the world I was told by a few of the workers, hundreds of amazing fish in there. The skimmers alone (all four of them) were the size of small cars Lol. I couldn't imagine what kind of specially designed lighting or powerheads they use for something like this. They also have a 120,000 gallon shark tank with about five 6-8 foot sharks with a few other groupers that weigh 600 lbs roughly each. Well here, Enjoy ImageUploadedByTapatalk1425531598.983641.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1425531610.821217.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1425531621.410774.jpgView attachment 310258ImageUploadedByTapatalk1425531638.268172.jpg

a great place, run by great people...

Bill's tank in Wisconsin is a bit bigger, as is Drew's new monster build..

Did Bill recover from the leak he had a few months back? Drew has been a busy guy haven't seen much in the way of updates on the build

yes, his tank looks great...he was adding a lot of coral the past few days...they are both back in town and will update soon, I imagine..

I'm within reasonable driving distance of Riverhead, NY, yet I have never visited the Atlantis Aquarium. Will have to redress that oversight this Spring.

Simon when the weather gets warmer it's well worth the trip. I've been there a dozen or more time between our meetings, events, NERAC etc.. And each time I see something new. The behind the scene and after dark tours were great , especially the flashlight fish in that reef at night. BTW it's 20,000 gallons.

I'm pretty sure it's lit by multiple high wattage MH pendants. My family and I buy season passes so we can go when the kids are off from school. My favorite spot, even with all that they have there is sitting right in front of the reef tank. Just spectacular!!! With all the diversity in there it is truly a piece of the reef.

How in the world do they light a tank that big? MH? Whatever they're using the SPS looks great.

In the same thread under "Reef discussion" I gathered its lit by 20 1000w MH fixtures with several multichip led pendants with a 300g surge tank and a hydro wizard. Also has a 1.5 hp return pump
