Why not? There is only a small difference in the two and additives like Ca and Mg are added regularly anyway.

I have been using it for over 20 years for everything from sps to softies.
Also, alot of the aquaculture industry uses it.

Do you guys find that after a large water change, your calcium and magnesium drops with the regular version? I may switch, or use half and half like my coffee. thanks

What most people do who use IO like myself is just buffer the mixed water up before doing the change. Once you figure out what needs added every change from that point on will be fairly easy. I would love to use SeaChem, D&D or another higher grade salt, I just cant justify the cost at the moment and I.O does the job.

Why would you put regular in a reef tank?

I just want bare bones saltwater. I can then modify based on what the tank needs.

I have done a lot of research before getting into the hobby and I noticed that a lot of successful tanks use the regular and dose according to the tank needs. Makes sense to me.
