I do not know if there is such a thing, you might have to use 150W DE.

I have never seen 175w HQI and I looked for them before I came to understand that HQI came in 150w, 250w and 400w. At least that was what I could find. There was some cheap manufacturer that put out a 175w HQI setup but it was my understanding that they were actually 175w ballasts just overdriving 150w bulbs.

Only Jebo/Odysea make 175w HQI bulbs. If you have one those fixtures look at aquatraders.com for the bulbs.
Check here for fire extinguishers if you have one of these fixtures.

i already got the aquatraders fixture, it was the best i could afford.

i got the 175........... i guess i will just overdrive 150 watt 14k phionx bulbs

I had the aquatraders fixture too until one of my ballast caught fire.
In regards to their bulbs, I had two 175w 15,000k bulbs in the fixtures one looked like it was 20,000k and the other looked like 6,500k. Reading through these and other forums it sounds like a lot of other people had the same problem with the color temp not matching. I have learned my lesson, a bargain isn't a bargain when the unit will need replaced within six months.

14k Pheonix is a good bulb you should get 12 months out of it

what did you pay for the light and the bulbs

s**** i am a little scared now. do you know why yours caught fire?

i have 2 20k bulbs in it now that look the same. everything in the fixture is working fine as of now.

i payed $320 for the whole fixtre, 2 x 96 watt actinic pcs, 2 x 175 watt 20k odesseya HQI MH, and 6 led moonlights, with the ballasts.

i hope it stays good, i thought that chadscamero was havin a good time with his?

Does it use electronic ballasts? The electronic ballasts are not rated for high heat applications and will fail prematurely. If possible, I would try and modify the fixture to remote the ballasts.

Also, light output on fluorescent lamps decreses as a function of temperature (both too high or too low). You lamps will likely run dimmer due to heat.

Also, heat is the LED killer. Not sure how long the LEDs will last in a system like that.

Does it have fans? I bet it does!

Otherwise it looks like a really cool fixture. Very clean and compact.

I don't know why mine caught fire for sure. I woke up one morning after the lights came on (they were on a timer) and there was smoke and a popping sound coming from under my stand. I immediately unplugged everything. I opened up the ballast box and there were two capacitors blackened and melted together. My fixtures were only about 4 months old at the time.

Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m sure there are more people having good luck with them then people having bad luck. However Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m also sure people are having better luck with other products.

I just know Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ll never buy anything that again from a company that doesnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t warranty their products.

sounds like water got on you ballast.... i am keeping mine away from my tank for that very reason.

poping usually means water and electricity ......... i think

I highly doubt they got wet. I didn't have a sump, there were on wire shelves, there were no leaks, and I never stored anything wet under my tank. Besides the capacitors were sealed. I suspect the fans may have stopped and one or more capacitor overheated.

Any electrical fire will make popping noises from the electricity arcing.

but it happend right after they turned on, so they probably were not that hot.l...


since i heard that the fans go out between 3-6 months, i think that i am going to go ahead and install good quality ones now.

so if i get a new ballast will the fixture be fine?

a new MH ballast... the pc ballast seems to be pretty safe, i dont think there is much that can happen to it.
