The only issue I see is what’s going to happen to the non square tank.. He He
You aren't kidding. From what I've heard, they admited some "less than perfect" square tanks on the first couple runs. With any luck that means they've also fixed any issues on all current builds.

It could be as early as Thursday (just dropped the old one back off). The tank CWARD and GEO (I think that's who went) previewed at the Chicago conference a while back was a 6' if I recall properly. Little was known about the tanks at that point, but everyone seemed overly impressed. It's one of the reasons I decided to go this route.

Had some time to work on the stand a bit this weekend. The top/bottom frames are already done. Unfortunately my drill ran out of batteries (helps when you put the spare in the charger  ).

Of course... the inspector was there the whole time...

Sizing out the approx height one last time (39"):

Slight pull to make it square:

Looking good Eric.
yeah the tank at Imac was really nice and impressive for "stock" tank. Evident that many things were taken into consideration when they were designed.

Hopefully the other tanks that were not square were caught and aren't sitting in someones livingroom.

Mostly done. Front and back verticals need to go in as well as a couple diagonal pieces to make it near impossible to fold. Quite a bit different than my 180 stand out of 4x4's. I'm shooting to hold the weight of two tanks this time... I'm thinking 2x M1 Abrams should take care of it ;)

Marking stud locations for tank placement. Think my lights are going to hang on the wall permanently with a canopy that moves independently.

Almost there...

99% complete. Going to add two diagonal pieces at some point (not sure when, just before the project is finished). Next step is reinforcing the floor and busting holes in the drywall ;)

Yeah, I don't know why, but he somehow manages to work his way into the pictures (notice he's in almost all stand pictures).

Eric. Don't forget to shim the front of the stand to account for the carpet tack strip in the back. It might throw things off level once weight is put on the stand. Looks like the back of the stand could be sitting on it.

I've been debating how far to put it off the wall, but I'm thinking 3" at least in case I ever put Vortech's or something on the back pane. It will make it easier to get the Tunze magnets back there as well.

When I was selling my condo, someone from the real estate office came out to take pics. Somehow, my oldest cat ended up in EVERY photo. I'm a firm believer in the ability of cats to teleport. . . . :D

I second the ripping down of the lumber. It is amazing how crooked lumber is . It is a lot easier to work with then. Looks nice.

Eric, Nice stand so far. I will be building one for the same tank soon myself. Is this a stand you designed or did you see it on the web?

Keep up the good work. Looking forward to more pics in the future

tazmanian_cowboy partially custom, partially off the DIY stand build thread here.

Well, unfortunately 0 for 2 on tanks now. Fresh off the truck we inspected the second tank. It was better in corner to corner dimensions (1/4" off), but I still feel that is pretty bad for a major tank manufacture. That wasn't the show stopper though. Giving it a full inspection, we found a large chip/break (1"+) in the corner overflow glass area. Even worse, there didn't seem to be any damage to the trim which makes me wonder...

So back to contacting them again.

wow not good. Eric did you check who build the tank just to see if it was build by the same person? usually their name are in the bottom or inside/ between glass and trim.their quality inspection should improve..my friend got the 300 gallon I will cal him tomorrow and let him know.

No, I didn't check the tag naldopr.

No update on the tank, although it normally takes about a week to get here, so probably thurs-fri. Apparently this one is going through a bit of inspection before it goes on the truck ;)

They seen to be an up front company but It looks like their quality assurance procedures need to be reviewed. Every tank should be looked at for these specific issues now that they have been publicy brought foreward.

Awwwww yeah.... 3rd time is a charm :) Only 1/8th difference corner to corner, panels are nice and square (and properly vertical), etc. Apparently it was inspected quite thoroughly and they took a slightly different shipping technique. This one came boxed, pallets (two actually), protection on top, etc. I'm sure PhishyBusiness is just happy to have it out of the store in one piece :) Thanks to them for making sure that I got a solid tank no matter what the hassle.
