180 Gal Saltwater show tank

I think insinuating that she "was brought to tears" is hyperbole at best...

Maybe, but they were her words not mine.

she said she had no intent of posting here after posting the tank F/S. That's fine, she did what was with in the rules.

Actually she said after the warm welcome she would probably not post again.

It is also with in the RC rules to voice an opinion of people using the forum soley for selling items, and not for contributing to the discourse that brings all of these people to one place benefiting the seller/one time poster.

I agree just think it could have been handle a little friendlier. JMO

It's not a huge deal to me, but I felt an opening to speak my mind when Ebmorri posted...

I would like to clear something up.
I did not say: " she had no intent of posting here after posting the tank F/S." I said "And with this warm welcome, Chris' comment about me never being heard from again is probably true." "Probably".

I definitely feel this should be my last post as I did not feel Welcome here at all. I am sorry if I posted this in the wrong place, I do not wish to sell it on RC so I will not be posting pictures.

I find my aquariums help wash the tension and stress from the day away, which is one of the main reasons I have aquariums -- to help me reduce the stress of everyday life -- and I have enough stress in life without purposely subjecting myself to more.

May you all have a Happy New Year.

Come on now, just let it go. Its gotten blown out of proportion dont you think?
You really didnt do anything wrong as far as the rules are concerned I think that has been said.

I hate to keep posting here i feel like an a-hole. There is some history of things here, I see the RMRC board as a total flea market, If I had the time I'd look at the last 60 days and gather the data but I'd be willing to guess its around 75% for sale and 25% actual "fellowship" as RC was intended for.

So forgive me but i actually do care about the SCMAS area of Reef Central. Sometimes in my passion for things I come across as a jerk, but i assure you I didnt mean to drive you away, i really thought (and still do to some extent) that once you sell the tank you'd never be back.

Now that I think about it, if I had asked why you are selling and maybe discovered you had an issue with the tank or you are just thinning out your tanks and are indeed going to stay in the hobby and stay here, this may have gone another direction.

But hey, i'm just human we can make mistakes, why dont you, or why didn't you ever post some history and what your curent hobby situation is?

Chris

^^^If your intent was to become a member of the community and continue to post, then I am truly sorry as my comments were made in general and not directed toward you specifically. Like I said
My intent was not to make the poster feel unwelcomed...heck, I'd like to see her post on a regular basis if she stays in the hobby.

The problem with message boards is none of us can detect tone or even the intent of the poster.

Come on guys, can we stop the bashing? There clearly is a misunderstanding that I hope you can each see the opposing side of view. If you can't let me point it out.

First: that someone who is trying to sell their tank and felt that we as fellow reefers might be interested in their setup.

Second: that someone who we don't know anything about has posted that they are selling their tank. Leading some to jump to conclusions that the forum might in turn become another Craigslist (a place to sign up if you want to sell your aquarium/equipment).

Now, I'm not taking a stance on either side just trying to point out the other person's side that has caused this to get so heated over something so trivial.

To those of Opinion 1, please understand that there are those who believe this is a place to engage in conversation and share experiences rather than joining RC to sell your equipment

And to those of Opinion 2, please understand that this is a forum of people who enjoy this hobby and what better place to offer an aquarium than a place where enthusiasts gather.

Please let's not make a big deal out of a simple misunderstanding.

To Shirl it looks like you have other tanks (Hobby Experience: 4 Tanks 7 years) and we all feel the same as you about the enjoyment aquariums are in our lives. I hope that you would be willing to stick around and get to know us and help share your experiences with us. We all sell stuff on this forum and that is not a big deal, please let us get to know you and put this behind us.

Maybe she should go to my wifes scrapbooking website to sell her tank? At least there, Jody (Todd's wife) will see it and tell people about it.

Seriously guys/gals. ***???? I have reffered many a person to this forum as many don't even know we exist. This is a great place to exchange ideas, have spirited debate, learn and buy/sell livestock and equipment. If somone logs on and sells something and never comes back, who cares? Is it taking up server space? Impacting us in anyway? Not at all. I can honestly say that all selling that goes on here has been topic related, not like RMRC where they do appear to be a fleamarket (Sorry Christoph, I think your numbers are a little high, probably 55-45%) ;-)

Alright Smurf I'll take your word for it, I dont have the time to research and gather the numbers ;) but I think its closer to 65-55% ;)

Who suggested she post here

Who suggested she post here

First let me say I think some of the remarks made to this poster were uncalled for. I went looked at this tank at owners house and after deciding I wasn't interested in the tank suggested she post on this forum just to help sell the tank. I didn't see any harm in suggesting this as the poster had never heard of reef central or of SCMAS. They do still have two really nice tanks they are keeping. They are selling this tank because of the time it takes to take care of a tank of this size. SCMAS might of gotten two more members but after the remarks made to them I don't think this will happen.

I know I haven't been that active it SCMAS because of other issues that have popped up lately I do plan on helping more with the club in the future and hope all those that have posted negative comments to these fine folks will stop and reflect on how these attitudes can be corrected.

I doubt any "negative posts" would of happened if the price on this tank was $500. Then the post would of be "welcomed."

My two cents.

John let me say this...there have been a lot of fly by night sellers in recent months, and as some have pointed out, it has been the ruin of RMRC forum. Like I said, if the poster had the intent of becoming a contributor to the forum, then I apologize. I don't know what else to do...I have said it a few times now.

The other part of the equation is this...ALL forums are inpersonal. We don't always know one another, and many of us have never met. I think there are people reading far into what has been said, rather than looking at it, and seeing that it is merely opinion as we are all entitled to. No one voiced their opinion in a rude manner or the thread would have been shut down.

I have yet to see a message board, here or anywhere else where there isn't conflict between posters. That's just the nature of message forums and some choose to read and not post due to this dynamic...

brought to tears? i would hope not. if so then i wouldnt even get on the internet.

scmas is full of good people but the internet isnt. i wouldve come to a meeting with pics in hand, then of corse i probably wouldve changed my mind about selling it lol

I think a welcome to SCMAS or RC would have made a world of difference to this particular person percption.

I believe that simple jester would have made the "negative comments" more receptive.

COreefer you asked for others opinions and they are now giving it.

Try to remember not everyone who logs on here has a "hidden" agenda or knows the unwritten rules, believe it or not there are alot of people out there that have never used the internet before.

All good points, I'll take your advice Keith and remember it for next time.

But also as Eric L says its impersonal here, you dont know the tone or attitude online so a piece of advice from me would be next time to introduce yourself first. Its hard to welcome somebody sometimes without an introduction.
An example: I am at home in my PJ's and the doorbell rings, I see a stranger with some papers in hand. First thing I think of is somebody trying to sell me something I dont need, and they are going to interupt my evening, even though they could simply me a neighbor new to the area, wanting to say hi. See it can be easy to jump to conclusions, so each side needs to relax a bit.

well Murf I am glad you have time to do that, especially at work! LOL
I thought it'd be higher, but really its half which is still bad, maybe sometimes there are 4 or 5 in a row and when i sign on and see those all on the first page it makes me think the numbers are high.

BTW is anyone here going to the mini-confrence in February in Denver? I am as well as a friend of mine, We can squeeze 3-4 more people in the tahoe if you want to go with me I'll drive.

Do they sell livestock there?

At the Mini Conference? No. Though I'm sure there will a Frag Swap coming up this Spring in Denver.

RMRC on RC has become a busy local trading/selling forum with most items being hobby relevant. However someone recently posted some kitchen appliances! There is a reason for Craig's List!

If you'd like more information on the upcoming mini-conference, stop by the RMRC club website at http://www.rmrc.info/mambo/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=74&Itemid=41

Everyone is welcome.
