180 gallon- How many streams?

I'm going to be setting up a 180 in one week and have been reading a few threads about the Turbelle streams. My 180 is going to have SPS, LPS, clams, ect. It will have (2) 3/4" Seaswirls being feed from the return pump and was wondering if one stream (6100) would be be enough flow in the tank? Do you recommend the upgrade to the (6110) w/ the controller? Is the upgrade a big difference in performance over the (6100)? I will have a 2" Sand Bed so I didnt know if all the flow will be kicking sand around all the time.

Are these ok to plug into a standard 120v line?

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

The pumps are low voltage but include a transformer that plugs into a standard US 115V outlet. Kit 6110 doesn't exist anymore. If you want a controller you will buy it seperate as part 7091 Single Controller or 7094 Multicontroller. The controller enables pulsing and wavemaking features- these are the ONLY wavemakers you can use on these pumps, any others will ruin the pump. I think eventually as your reef grows you will want to add a second pump, my recommendation is that you get one 6100 and a 7094 multicntroller so you can add a second pump later.

Champion Lighting sells the 6100 + 7091 and calls it the 6110 Kit. Is this the one you said doesnt exist? I guess they still have some in stock. How long ago was it discontinued? Is their a reason it was discontinued?

It was discontinued because we have been trying everything possible to keep up with demand, having a seperate assembly run and a seperate box just to include a controller people could buy seperately was not part of the equation, it was discontinued in July. We do offer a kit TS12 as a replacement two seperate items in two seperate boxes. No one would have kit 6110 remaining. TS12 does cost more, perhaps Champion just kept the old name for the new kit TS12.

I was just on MarineDepot.com and found that you can order the items individually. Since I would only use two streams at the most on my 180, doesnt it make sense to order the Single controller (7091) + Branch Adapter (7094.34) + Photo Cell (7094.05). This will give me the option of running two streams and the cost of the doing that controller would be right around $100 instead of the multi-controller that would cost $166.22.

Would their be any disadvantage in doing this?

Sorry for all the questions. Just want to be sure because I have no experience in using these pumps.

The drawback is that you will not be able to run one pump at a time or one pump at a seperate speed from the other pump. It just isn't worth doing, get the pump and wait on a controller if you can't afford it now. You will still be able to turn down the flow.

So you can order a 6100 stream and then add a Multi-Controller at a later date?

So you can add stream as your system grows.

Yes. In fact you can add any Turbelle Electronic you wish to your controller and with the proper adapters you can also use the 2002 and 4002 Turbelle Classic.

no. the 6060 and 6080 are not controllable hence the big price diff between them and the 6000 and the 6100

Thats what I figured but I thought I would ask before I spend the $$$$.

Hey Moonpod, which streams are you using on your 180? (6000 or 6100)

6100x2 on a multicontroller. Prolly could use something MUCH smaller directly under the streams.

For reference I have 2 x 6100s (originally 6000s, upgraded the x-formers)in my 215 (basically a tall 180). I have one on either side of the tank offset just a bit so I get some circular flow patterns. I would say the flow is adequate for any 6 foot tank but I get a few calm spots in mid tank (mostly due to too much rock I think).

I am using 2 x single controllers as the multicontrollers were not readily available when I purchased my streams. Works well for me as I have one mounted at either end of the cabinet but the multicontroller would likely be simpler.
