180 gallon in wall double sided view setup!!

I am located in southern utah, about 1.5 hrs north of las vegas. Ill update the pics as soon as i get some more livestock in and my woodwork finished.

man, I wish you were closer. In a few years, I'm gonna want somebody to help (read: do it for me) me with one of those.

Stocking will be mostly SPS and Clams with a few LPS and the occasional softie,

im still working on the fish stock list, im up for suggestions on that one!!

definately get two or three tangs for that tank. they will keep the algae in check. I also recomend one goby to keep the sand bed clean. I have one, golden head sleeper goby, and he keeps the entire bed clean! 1"-3" deep. and you have to have a couple of percs :)

just make sure your tank is ran for two full months before adding those tangs, to make sure they stay healthy when you get them.

ya ive been patient on adding any real fish to the system, its been up for about 6 weeks now. Ill probably start with a few more fish in the next week or 2.

thank for all the input.

I want to see how you setup your toilet tapwater, upper decker, drydocker, topoff system :D . Looks really good Jim!

Just curious...what do you expect the monthly outlay to be on electrical costs to support a system like that?

I already run a pool, hot tub and a few small tanks (plus AC in the 9 month FLA summer) and pay more on my electric than I did for my car payment.

I have been wanting to build a wall unit, though, and have the carpentry and drywall and plumbing experience.

pploco, if you dont stop giving me "crap" about the toilet water next time im at your house i may leave behind an upperdecker top off for you to evaluate...:)

unfortunatly i dont have any new pics up just yet, i have moved a large derasa clam into the system and a bunch more SPS frags, im going through a pretty good hair algea stage right now with no cleanup crew but the blennie. Ill try to get some up in the next few days..

As far as electrical outlay, according to the calculations i have made it should cost around 50 dollars per month. I tried to base all of the flow on 2 large energy efficent pumps, most of the circulation comes from an ampmaster3000 split 4 ways into SCWD's which require no electricity. there are only 3 pumps on the whole system, 1 ampmaster 3000 for closed loop, 1 MD55 for the skimmer and an iwaki70 for the return pump. Total circulation is about 3300 GPH which is around 18X's total water. My calcium reactor is gravity fed, well except for the recerc pump which is a mag 2. I am only running 900 watts of lighting for around 8-10 hrs per day. I may be a little limited on the corals i will be able to keep with this lighting, being 1 400 MH and 2 250's but that should keep 95% of the stuff i woudl like to.

I also built my house to be very energy efficient, my total electricity bill with the AC running in the summer is only around 100-120 dollars per month. that is cooling a 5000 sq foot home with the reef and everyting in it.

i use those compact florecent bulbs to light the entire home, so they are only like 13 watts or something vs 60 for a regular bulb. I have several attic fans on thermostats to keep the attic cool. i installed 15 sear AC units for the home, using a split level system heating and cooling 1/2 the upstairs and down stairs each. I figured i saved enough with the energy efficent stuff in my home to pay for the reeftank.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Just thought i would mention a few additions to the system.

i added a yellow tang as well as a 2nd lawnmower blenny and a sea hare to work on the algea problem.

hopefully more additions to come

Well there have been some ups and downs to the system over the past few months, i finally have all of the cabinetry and woodwork finished. It was all done in alder to match the rest of the office and house and has turned out very very nice. I will post pictures when i get home tonight.

I did have a serious bout with ICH about 6 weeks ago, i lost 3 fish that i was unable to catch and treat, 1 being a very nice powder blue tang, 1 yellow tang, 1 lawnmower blenny.

So i am down to only 5 fish in the system, 1 sailfin tang, 1 foxface and 2 damsals that i have been unable to kill!! even though i havent fed them anything in the past 2 months!! Due to the ich i will be removing all of the fish from the display for a period of 4-5 weeks and have now setup the quarantine tank that i was to lazy to setup originally to prevent another outbreak.

I also had a small RTN outbreak that i was unable to identify the cause of. I was lucky in that i only lost 3 SPS, however some very large colonys lost about 1/2 their tissue but it has since stopped and they are starting to regrow.

anyway pictures will be updated inthe next day or so, so everyone can see the progress on the system as well as the finished product.

thanks for all the advise and recommendations to this point!

Ok i finally have the pictures ready to show the cabinetry around the tank on the office side.

comments welcome!

I was able to stop the RTN of my SPS and only lost a few corals. I will be starting the restocking process in the next month or so. I also only have 4 fish in the system and havent fed anything for nearly 2 months now trying to get the nutrient levels down from the die off and the algea back under control.

ill update pics when this happens.

Here are a few tank pics, i have also added a tunze stream to the system. I figured at only 15 watts i could have that running all the time and go down to 12 hrs per day on my ampmaster closed loop and the tunze woudl pay for itself over time in electrical savings. Its big and ugly but sure puts out a lot of water!!
