It all started innocently enough with my wife calling me in to see the old tank. "Hey honey, the floors wet." That'll wake you up faster than any coffee I've ever had.
After spending hours looking for a leak, I happened to look up while my head was inside the stand. HMMMM I thought to myself, that water is supposed to be on the other side of the glass, this cannot be good.:eek1:
After noticing the stuctural damage to the stand (I think the seam had been going for awhile and just dripping into the sump) the decision was made to go new (and of course bigger) instead of repairing.
Well, I'd been wanting to remodel this room for awhile anyway, so why not. The 120g was broken down and all inhabitants (Including us) were moved to the garage. It's a small house so nowhere else to go since the living room is 1/3 of the house square footage. Luckily the furnace is in the garage, so with the carefull application of a hole making device, we now had full blast A/C going to keep us and the tank cool.
A 100g stock tub was used as a temporary home while work progressed. And a lot of riganeering was employed to set up lights, sump and reactors.
A far as the new setup, I took advantage of this time to put a tile floor under the tank with a drain, run 2 dedicated 20A circuits, and plumb in a drain and supply line for water changes. All in all I'm happy with the way things turned out. Livestock loss was minimal. 6 frags, 2 colts, and 3 shrimp. This was due I believe to a malfunction in the ato going through the kalk reactor which spiked the pH.
The tank was down for 3 weeks, and the new tank has been up and running for 8. I'm finally getting everything dialed in, and most of my corals have colored up.
Enough babble, here are the pics:
