180 gallon VS floor

Hello, just wondering if anyone has any experience with heavy tank VS floor. I live in a house with a basement. The floor joists are true 2X12's with about 2'' of subfloor and 1'' of hardwood. The tank would be placed against an exterior wall with the floor joists not running parralel with the long part of the tank, if that makes any sense. Thanks for the help.

If your joists are not running parralel (ie they are perpendicular) to the long side of the tank, you will have 4 joists taking the weight of the tank, and with it being on the exterior wall, the joists will be well supported by the foundation. As long as the joists are properly setting on the foundation you will not have any problems with your tank. Now if the joists are not properly connected to the foundation you could have lots of problems but should not.

2x12 running perpendicular to the tank should be fine no? That is some fairly serious support already. Granted you are looking at closer to 1500 lbs but....I would say you are alright.

Like the man said, 60 bucks is worth peace of mine too. My two cents.

I have my 180 in my living room above the basement. my house is about 30 years old. the floor joists are 2x6 or 2x8 they run perpendicular to my tank. I have 4 and have no problems with this
