180-In wall build thread...

Yes i talked to a few people, Local contractor's that have experience with these old house's and there is no weight on it, They used it as a brace to hold up the tree (vert) beam while the nailed eveything into place it's actually not nailed to it, just wedged there.

also all of the rock in the 125 is going to be up for grab's if more then one person want's it i will divi it up, but it's free to a good home.

Glad to hear you consulted with some folks. Never know with some of these homes!

Very generous offer on the rock! Wish I was closer by to get a few pieces!

I was on my way back home from john's (jaf's) house, After picking up some more thing's from the setup that i purchased from him, 180 tank, And about 300 plus pound's of LIVE rock, etc etc, My van decides to blow the transmission on the I-90, with 300 pounds of live rock and a van full of fish supplies, So the tow truck come's and the only thing i could think of was how to save this rock from dieing, (it is full of life and i was transporting it dry)_So what did my brother and i do? we unloaded the entire 100 gallon sump full of rock, Into the parking lot of the truck stop, and started making saltwater and rinsing the rock's one by one, for the long wait ahead. The tow truck left us at the truck stop and we waited for our ride to pick us up. Over an hour and a half from my house. Loaded all of the rock back into my friends van, and i finally just sat down to reflect on my day. this all started at 9 this morning.Anyways i have the rock all set up and curing for the 180 build here are some pic's

Haha your not kidding about the aspirin, And no sign's of any nem's yet but ton's of sponge's and other neat thing's

dont put that thing too high in the wall. it looks great but you need a ladder to do anything. my 120 is 4 feet high, and it sucks to do anything. aqua scaping is impossible. you are on a great path though, dont loose speed. good luck, keep up the great work.

ok, Finally i have been able to make some progress on the build, Had to buy the wife a new van :furious: and that was an obvious "buzz kill" any way's the beam has been installed and the wall removed, Now it's time to start constructing the stand. I am a boat mechanic and an Antique boat hobbyist and builder and i wanted to bring that into this build but didn't really now how. So after some thought i decided to build the stand out of African mahogany the same wood used on many antique boat's. and i have a lot of old hardware from boats i am going to use throughout the stand ,Hinge's handles etc etc. The wood was delivered to my shop today, i Took a lot of pictures and will be posting them once my kid's stop running around and throwing nerf footballs at me. Hey dad catch BANG:crazy1: right in the head. so i will be back with pic's and more info as soon as i get them to bed.

These are the mahogany board's that i will cut the joint's in and plank the stand with.

This is what the wood look's like after it has been plained, jointed, caulked, stained and varnished. This is on a boat that is currently being built.

Today i was able to start building the stand, My buddy tor down his garage and built a new one so i took all of the wood and am using it to build the stand skeleton. I did it at home so my kid's could help seeing as they had the day off. I get nervous with four kid's running around my wood shop to many things to get into. Excuse the mess.
