180-In wall build thread...

Well after week's of thinking and trying to figure this project out, It has started, I am tearing a wall down in my house, and filling it with a 180, I purchased the set up from john (jaf) on the board, I will start posting picture's in a little bit, as soon as i figure out how to. Pretty much our living room and our family room are becoming one, Divided by the 180, My 125 is on the wall that is getting removed, so it is getting relocated into the dining room, Anyone live around wilson NY? That wants to lend a hand and needs some frag's or supplies i am willing to trade for a helping hand...


My wife think's i am :smokin: something good.. more to come
 
WOW! Sounds awesome. Give me about 10 years and I'll be building a few 180's in my house! I look forward to watching your progress.

Please forgive my picture taking and posting it's my first time ever doing it, Im probably the only 28 yr old in the world that does not have a facbook or an i phone thing. anyway's here is another shot of the wall that is going away

We are also remodeling both room's during this, Drywall, floors etc etc.... The best part is i want it completed before thanksgiving.. :uzi: :hmm4:

Haha Well if not my wife is going to kill me cause we have about 20 people coming over for thanksgiving.....:blown:.... I love the little smily things
 
awesome! The built in tanks are always stunning! make sure it isn't a load bearing wall! also - if it's not a load bearing wall you should consider putting up supports in the basement.
 
Gotta keep an eye on this one. Good luck with the remodel.
As Blurry said, be careful around load bearing walls. I would support the 180 in the basement for sure.

I just noticed that you still have time to watch dancing with the stars :lmao:
You should busting out walls if you want to be done by Thanksgiving...

It is load bearing, I have a steel I beam and 2 LVL beam's that i am going to be running the length of the room, I closed of the family room (kid's play room) of from the living room so i can do all the work to the wall with out disturbing the other room until i am ready, I already did the bracing in the basement when i put the 125 in.
 
Ok well it's midnight and i have figured out two thing's so far #1 is i wish i never started this project..:crazy1: # 2 my house is build like fort knox, I alway's new it was an old house (1890). that has been added to and remodeled over the years before we purchassed it but man the stud's in this wall are 3x4'3 and the main beam or oak tree that runs along the house is atleast a foot thick, I have never seen anything like it.

Your not kidding, It's true they just dont make thing's like they used too. It's amazing how those old timer's used to do thing's. This hobby really does do funny thing's to us fishtank people :inlove: i am completly ripping my house apart based only around a fishtank.
 
Well so far i have the entire room gutted, The beam is going in tommorow, There have been some change's in the plan, The boss came in the construction zone today and made some change's, lol

will the tank be viewed from two sides and be used as a divider of the two rooms ? if so i would drill it as a peninsula style meaning drill on one end not he back or front .

That is the plan, But i kinda have a little problem, The tank that i just Bought is not set up like that, So i am considering other option's, All i no is i half to take down my 500 due to some seam issue's, So i am consolidating it into two 180's, Also the asm skimmer is 3 ft tall so i need to make sure the tank is set up high enough but i dont want to put the tank 4ft in the air, but i need to have enough room to get under this thing and maintain it. so i am back to the drawing board so to say, this might turn into a 125 peninsula, and the 180's will go in other part's of the house...:confused:
 
with the size of your skimmer and the thought of all the necessary components that you will have to buy more than one of if they are not plumbed together you may want to consider drilling through the floor and having a common basement sump then you need one fuge ,one skimmer,one heater ,one sock setup ,one uv sterilizer ,and the list goes on . also you probably will need more than one heater as i don't like to have heater more than 300 watts due to their power consumption and you may need to have separate circuits for this reason . if your current tank is drilled you can plug holes if needed just make sure that you do as you are and ask questions ,keep your mind open ,and plan .plan ,plan ,before you do it because its semi-permanent if your constructing walls for your tank . etc,etc,etc .when your constructing walls always plan on electricity requirements so you can pre wire for all the necessary items needed .good luck and best wishes !

I would love to do a basement sump, But my house has two basement's, and the only way to get to the one that is under this part of the house(the oldest part) is from outside thro a set of bilco door's and i just dont feel like going thro 2 feet of snow everyday to check on thing's, I have alot of pump's heater's, and 2 spare skimmer's and ton's of extra thing's, plus everything that just came with the new tank, I ran a seperate breaker box earlier to the basment so all i will half to do later is just run the wire's up, Thank's for the input, cause i need all the help i can get, :thumbsup:

I should have stuck to goldfish....:jester:
