180 in-wall upgrade!... pics!

FWIW, I went with a Dart 3600gph and i was able to run my return, skimmer, phosban reactor, and still have enough pressure to do water changes without turning anything off. I just open the valve drain 35gal and replace it, makes x/change easy.Plus the water level in the tank never varies, This lets me place things much higher in the tank without having to move it down to do x/change. Plus my Coralline grows all the way to the rim now!
PS my wife dosn't like to admit it but she likes the tank as much as me! HA! Caught her many times in the middle of the night with the flashlight!!! Reefing is Gender friendly!!
 
to quiet the skimmer's platform box, have you considerd drilling a hole big enough for the spray foam straw & filling it w/ expanding foam?? ....that & maybe a computer mousepad between the skimmer & box

Spray foam has different types that expand More or less, that could be an option as long as it's the right density and don't cause problems! Which i don't know if funny applies, but might work to dampen the sound. A cheap way to muffle skimmer noise is a air pump filter, small jar with two connections for tubing one in and one out filled with filter pads. Just hook it up to your air line!

yeah i have seen that done for this very skimmer ... i will have to search.

So i build a platform out of sandwiched 2x6 and still vibrations. Then i found a plastic tupperware container and lid with the perfect dimensions. I shoved a towel in the container and placed the skimmer on top... no more vibrations! Now i hear the air more :rolleyes: ... almost there!
 
If that don't do it i have a muffler from my Octopus that i don't use. If you want to pick up in Spring Hill your welcome to try and see if it's better, and that i can donate to a good cause! I run mine wide open airflow more important to me, Plus it's in the garage.
 
IMO, I Think it does. But no actual proof. Just seem to skim better without it on mine! More air, more bubbles, more skimate. Makes sense to me, but don't go by that.
 
Hey guys, sorry for taking so long to post updates. Everything is going well ... the wall has been framed and painted. All frags and corals have been mounted. Unfortunately some sps have not done so great. Some browned out and a few bleached... even lost some. Everything seems stable now and colors are coming back. Lots has also been done in the fishroom including a water change and top off station which makes it SO easy to do my water changes. No more buckets or hoses, just the turn of a valve! I will post that later. I have also decided to switch to T5 lighting due to the heat build-up in that small room. I should be getting them this weekend. I am going with 6x80 watts.

Did you ever try the spray foam? It is what we use in the Spa/Hot Tub business on our tubs to insulate the heat and drown out the noise of the 5 horse power pumps. If you were to use ½ pound foam I think it would be your best option.

Hahahah I'm a wife of a aquarium hobbiest. Its sooooo tough lol you sometimes resent the fish especially when your pregnant and then you have a baby and all they can take pictures of is corals LOL......Also realizing that most of their time will be on reefcentral or fixing the tank just right and the only way to get alot of time is complain severly about it or join them ....or another approach do your own but not let them help:) Heheheh Im planning on the last one:) Feng shui my room while gettin even hahah jk...But you definitly need a supportive wife cause it distracts themm soooo much !!!!
 
Well HELLO NOObitanker...love the name! I am so glad you just decided to join your hubby in his hobby! Hey, at least its easier for you to learn than golf ;)....

Seriously, The tank will be the BEST babysitter you will have for the 3-10 month age! Put the kid in a comphy bouncy seat up close to the tank and let the mirical of nature intrigue and sooth a sleepy or cranky baby! Was a life saver for me many times! All the expensive "noisy" add ons they put on those bouncers can't come close to a relaxing fish tank! Just be sure to get a active fish and preferably a fish with a personality that likes to come out and play at the glass like a lawn mower blennie. They are known to be super social with there owners and stand there and kick sand up and make all kinds of cool fish faces at you while looking in on them. They are probably really cursing us out but it is still cute to watch!

I am sure we will see lots of pics of the new frag also when they get here. When are you due again? I will be looking for the pics! Great job on the tank also!!
