180 relocation project

Paul I am not sure if I will build another one to be able to see unpolished. I think this would be more for a meter anyways. I am not sure if the maked eye could tell much of a difference. What do you think? Just to build that one took two hours. Not including the polishing.

Dan even the hammertone ones are mirror polished, you have to look closely. I'd say finish it get it working and PAR test it, or atleast LUX test it whatever you can do to get a reading, then compare that with mine or russ' to see what the numbers are.
Since it's not shielded with glass like our DE setups I'm guessing it will be higher.

Murf we could check out one with real mirror glass but we'd need a PAR meter wouldn't we?
Chris

I run 400 watt bulbs. I am sure mine are higher even with my sh!tty reflectors. lol The hammertone I have seen was not very polished looking.

It was probably dirty then :) or homeade ;)
good job on the build though, its pretty cool, I wonder if all the edges you cut will rust right away, its not underwater but will get a lot of salt spray and may rust fast? who cares though right? maybe you should just paint it white, That reflector on the 180 at scotts is white isn't it? and looks like its lighting up your stuff well.

Since this IS galvanised it will be temporary. You know what rust is right?? Iron oxide. Iron and oxygen. Iron like the stuff you dump in your tank. lol I am ot going to paint it white, that would like Gay. IThe hammertone I saw may have been dirty. Where is that place you were talking about. I want to price them against Lowes. Lowes has some stuff called solar tube( thanks Russ). It is already polished and has a plastic sheet on top of it that would keep me from scratching it during the assembly. I did put the reflector over my tank and I could notice a better spraed and more light by the eye.

You know, you can borrow your GF clear nail polish and coat all the exposed edges which will protect them from corroding.

Fe is iron. Thanks for the tip Tim. It is a temp for now. I get to start my new job here in a bit. When i get home and I am notto tired I will see if I can rig my lights better to get e pic with this one going. It looks cool. I need to still finish polishing the inside. My girlfriend said I looked like I had a black eye yesterday when I was polishing. D@mn threads were in my eye and so was some of the rouge. lol I think this will turn out pretty well. The solar tube was around $30 and I think I can make one out of a roll of that. I need to get some clamps to hold my bending brake piece still for that though. I think that will be harder to bend.

whats Fe?
Anyway thats a good idea with the clear nail polish.
So your wrenching now eh? That's what I did before ditch digging, did it for about 4 or 5 years, what position are they having you do to start there?

So if rust drips into the tank you'll have les phosphate? Just Kidding, I was just messing with you.
Dan thats cool, It must me hard keeping up to date with all the new stuff, I didnt troubleshoot, I was just a tire, brake and alignment guy, the tech stuff was a little more than I wanted to mess with!

LOL, yeah I am a little lost with it right now. They totally understand though. I had a pretty good first day. I have to work on VW and Subaru. Everyone their seems to hate working on the VW's though.

That's good you sound like your enjoying it. Since you are the new guy there I can bet I know who's going to get stuck working on all the VW's. LOL I know how it works at those places, the poop definately flows downhill!!!!!!

They must be working your arse off at the new job! Have not heard from you lately! How about an update on those DIY lumenarcs!

Yeah I have been smoked nad my back not feeling so great after work. The last thing I updated on the LA's is the last time I touched them :(. I have to get my house finished this weekend. Damn realtor called the other day and told me their are many people interested in the house just waitting for me to finish. I wish they would let me know before that there are potential buyers or even people looking at the d@mn thing.

Here are some pics of my skimmer. I have had it a little while now. I really like it. So much easier to clean then my last one and it pulls out more stuff.
