180 setup question

a friend is setting up a 180 and wants to know if he should reinforce the floor. it will run across the joists and the house was built in 46. thanks

Probably should. I have a 180 that I'm estimating to be about 2200 lbs. with water, rock, stand, etc.

I think my 180g weighs more than that but on the slab concrete part of my house.
My tank and stand probly 5-600lbs by its self

yes it is a wise idea vecause if the weight

Assuming the tank is located along a wall and is perpendicular to the joists, each joist is only carrying a fraction of the weight. Although its probably not necessary, I prefer to precede along the line of caution.

I reinforced my floor, not because I was overly worried about the tank crashing through the floor, but more concerned deflection would result in potential problems in the adjoining room.
