I mentioned in another thread that I am having a 180 built. Standard dimensions 72x24x24. I mentioned that I want no noise and you suggested using a center overflow. Here is my drawing:
That is an external overflow. It may actually end up being a little wider than 30" because the builder says he needs to divide that into two overflows so he has a space inbetween the teeth to attach the eurobracing. Those teeth are said to be about 1 1/2 tall.
Here is something I was thinking about. If expense was not an issue and even though the eurobracing on this tank should prevent any splashing, would you consider doing either of these:
a)Extending the walls of the tank 1" higher while leaving the overflow teeth at the same level
b) Cut the teeth of the overflow deeper so that they are maybe 2" tall instead of 1 1/2?
The goal being to make sure that I have a good wave going but still making sure that there is always water entering the overflow.
Perhaps it's just me being anal. I just don't want to build this tank and then have problems with the wavebox later. You mentioned that the sound from the overflow will be somewhat dependent on how I have the durso setup. Actually I don't use a durso. Will probably go with a fully submerged standpipe controlled by gate valves on the drain lines. That is how I have it set up now and it is absolutely quiet. My goal with this next tank as well.......
