woop a fellow UK reefer ( makes a change ) tank looks awesome. the rock setup is amazing. cnt wait to see things watered and running. keep us updated . pics etc
Assume rock work. I'm looking at duplicating it in my 125. I have one question though. How did you attach the vertical pieces of eggcrate to the horizontal pieces? Thanks
I just cable tie (zip tied) them at right angles - once the rock was added and also zip tied and then the foam added they held the egg crate perfect - you do need to make sure the right angle IS held while you work though - if the rocks being added shoves it out of shape (and it will) then you foam you are stuck with it - so i worked with lots of things to prop up the various bits to hold it all square.
Wish i could update some more but i am so busy with work i havent moved on much! However, my sump system is now full of great fish ready to go in the display....highlights of my stock list:
Sargassum Trigger, Black Tang, Rhomboid Wrasse, Hawaiian Flame Wrasse, Mystery Wrasse, Blue Spot Jawfish, Onxy Percs in s. Gigantea, Yasha Gobies, Dispar anthias, etc
In the UK it is VERY hard to build up a list like that because we never get those fish normally. The costs seem to work out the same as taking the US dollar price and double it for a UK pound price.....and as the pound is worth double the dollar that hurts! Anyway, i am very pleased to have tracked them down
I think this re-design of the aquascape fits the tank perfectly and opens the look of the tank. Can't wait to see it stocked and operational. Thanks for sharing and keep us posted.
Spent the weekend picking up some great fishto complete my stocking - al being held in the 900 litres of sump at the moment - cant wait to get them in!!!!

Amazing rock work. I am building a 220 right now and I think I am going to cover most of the back with the foam rockwork. I am very intersted in your's. What kind of foam did you use and what kind of resin. Is it just insulating foam spray that one would use to insulate a window frame.
discussed in more deatil here - but yes, normal expanding foam coated in coral gravel and resin from the model shop that sells toy boats and planes to people that cant get laid
hey! great work man.i really like your rock/foam/egg crate idea!wish i had thought of something like in my tank too.would have stopped the rock slides, lol.Good to see another UK reefer on RC.
keep up the good work cant wait to see it with water and fishess!!
Good news - its full, its heated and salted and smells of nothing (absolutely no smell at all) and test are all negative for any death!
Bad news - after 24 hours its still no where near clear (maybe i was expecting too much?) the flow to sump is pretty low (OR3500 prob pushing 2000lph net) the skimmer in the sump is running wet and pulling out a cup of very very weak tea every few hours. Just thought it would settle faster?
Still - nice that its smell less and running silent.
Last night
Now (24hrs later)
Ps- the sausage is carbon in case anything nasty is in there...its not a sausage.
