180r overflow placement

I might be having a 180r 72 x 24 x 24 built. 1/2" Acrylic w/ black back. I will be having a Tunze wave box and maybe 2 6100 streams.

Q1. Where would be the best postion for the overflow?
Center, 2 corners, etc.

Q2. How many bulkheads?

Q3. What size bulkheads?

Q4. Size of return tubes?

Thanks
Doug

External overflows covering half the length of the tank. No space taken up in the tank and no worries on working inside them.

On the external overflow, is there a particular brand or something. Size of drains? Do they just hang on the back?

I'm new to this exteral overflow idea.

Thanks
Doug

They cut the fingers in the back wall and build the box around them. Your tank builder will do it all when he builds the tank. You do have to have some room behind the tank though. It will have a larger skimming off the top area. My next tank is going to be 1000+ and will have all external overflows.

Thanks Steve.

How would you run the returns? Bulkhead through the back, up through the bottom, U-tubes over the rim?

Thanks
Doug

If you want to use a Tunze Wavebox I would recommend a center overflow built off the back of the aquarium. The up and down water level motion from the Wavebox can be hampered by an overflow positioned on the side of the aquarium. However, a center overflow can be a PITA to maintain. Hope this helps.

Hey Doug

Take a look at my gallery. The tank I'm setting up as we speak has a alot of these ideas in place. The only thing different from the drawings is that the 2" bulkheads in the overflow are paired to the left.
