190 Gal build

did another 100 gal water change last night, nitrates was still at 15, I have them around 5 right now, took most of the rocks out of my 61 gal tank to catch the fish, I am going to leave the corals, clam, yellow tang and blue tang in it for another month, then I'll move them to the 190, drip acclimating the orange stripe prawn goby now, first fish in the new tank Yeah, about time....

fish are doing well so far, no signs of the move stressing them out, I added the foam covers on the MP 60's just so my blenny doesn't get involved with the blades, clean CUC looks to be doing very well, eating the diatoms, they have about 60% of it gone now, I went ahead and added a coral to the tank to see how it goes, not sure of the name but I think its a green star polyp, kinda looks like grass with a leather back...

Careful with that stuff. It can take hold and spread like a weed. Try to put it on its own rock unconnected to anything else.

Thanks for the info David, I have it on a clam shaped rock that was in the 61 gal tank, I'm not sure if I want to put my orange mushrooms in the 190 or not, I have 3 large hairy mushrooms I started with 1 about the size of a half dollar.

Following along... I'll be building this exact system (DSA 190 and Lifereef Setup) in the next month as soon as I get my sump form Jeff. :-)

Your going to love it.very quiet , I have mine in the living room and cannot hear it.I'm still waiting on my media cylinders from him as well room runs out quicker than you think in the cabinet. I used the dorso drain that comes with the tank. Good luck and post the link here so I can follow along.

Just got word, I'm up for my sumo build this week

now I just got to wait for the tank to come in :sad2:

As soon as I get both, I'll post the link to my build.

I am hoping I did not hurt my clam, I left the rock he was attached to leaning up on the side of the 61 gal tank hoping it would let go of the rock, it looked like he was trying to let go, its been 3 days, today its mantle is pulled into its shell, I can tap on his shell and he will close but he's not opening up mantle out like he used to, I laid the rock back down flat hoping to save him, it looks like he almost lost his foot, I've had this clam for 3 years now and dont want to lose it.

yupe I lost my clam, dangit!!! lesson learned, thought it would let go being in a unfavorable position, must have torn the foot and not the fibers, I'll wait a while before purchasing another let the new tank mature first, just dont like losing that clam, got it at 2 1/2 inches and it was over 6 inches....

I am waiting to see if the rest of my corals make it, I was gone to work for 3 days, I assume my heater in the 61 gal tank after 6 yrs failed in the on position, tank reached 90 degrees, I placed them in the 190 gal tank, toadstool appears ok, gorgonian looks good, my hammer is still withdrawn as well as my frogspwn, both torch corals seem ok just not out as normal.......so I'll work on seeing what cuc is left alive and dismantle the 61 gal tank, I have a buyer for it.

well, toadstool didnt make it, gorgonian is getting black tips, frogspawn looks to be trying as well as the hammer, man thats the tough part of working out of town for a few days, it was going to be last weekend to completely move everything over too, grr....

Diatoms slowly going away, a rock or 2 still have and one side of the gravel, also getting some green algea, lost my gorgonian, cant wait till I can begin stocking this tank with more corals.

How's the new tank going?
Sorry I missed this comment, been busy since I been back to work, Tank has been doing good for a week now, I been battling golden algea, I think I finally got it under control, used phosguard in chem bags in my sump to help with the phosphates, I also stopped feeding every day as well, I cant tell you which has helped, I am not sure why the base of my Hammer,Trumpet,Frog spawn corals looks like they are eroding away, I since using the phosguard, I am unable to get a good reading on my tests, Money has been tight so I hadnt done alot of water changes as of yet, I need filters for my RO system, I am still waiting on my filter cylinders from Jeff along with the ATO container, next month I will be getting it back into shape, and secure my levels for coral life. I lost the canary blenny and the clown, I did replace my gorgonian in Oct. it is doing well, a few more tweeks, alot of corals and a few more fish. I'll post some updated pics soon, coraline algea is growing on glass and pumps, not so much on rocks for scrubbing off the algea. I'll check perameters tomorrow as no phosguard has been on tank for a few days now.

Monday I should have the filter or Media Reactors in from Jeff at Lifereef, I finally found replacement filters for my Coralife RO system, next few months I can going to try and finish all components of this tank so I can begin getting more livestock in, Golden algea is still gone, although I can see some small growth but just a 1/16" on some rocks, as soon as I replace the filters I am going to get 50 gal water change done, I need more salt, if worse comes to worse I'll do a 25 gal change for sure.

I received 3 filter cylinders, Mag 7, and manifold in today from Jeff at Life Reef Systems, besides my sump/refugium,skimmer, I am still impressed with Jeff's worksmanship, the man takes pride in his work and it shows in construction, I will be pulling the Sump,Refugium, return pump out of stand to do some spring cleaning under stand and also to clean out Sump/refugium as well, the golden algea left alot of gunk in my sump, skimmer, and I need to clean out all detritis as well,I really didnt understand the size of these cylinders and only ordered a 1/2 gal of Premium ROX 0.8 Aquarium Carbon and 1 lb. of GFO, I will be mixing the 2 as these are flow through and not fluidized canisters, along with everything else I will do at least a 30% water change after I replace the filters in my RO unit, I'll have pics of tank and under stand this weekend, I do have coraline algea on glass and its spotting alot of the rocks,I will also get the corals perm. glued to rocks and off the frag plugs.

Sorry haven't kept up very well with this post, finally got the golden algea out if the tank, pulled everything out of sump, refugium, deep cleaned everything, I have done some water changes, added 3 cleaner shrimp, a zebra stripped dartfish, and another fire fish, looking for some acropora to add to the tank soon, been playing with flow rates, hadn't gotten the refugium on mud yet, still thinking it over, will add some more pics later, stuck at work and phone will not upload them
