a clam is finally back in my tank, this one is smaller than the first was I had, been in the tank for about 10 minutes now, seems happy to be out of the bags and into a system.I sure have missed having a clam

checked just 2 levels in tank today, calcium and alk, calcium shows 447 and alk is 8.8, I will retest in about an hr to update my levels, I finally found where to add them in fusion so now I dont have to write them down anymore lol

Salinity 1.0255
Ca 393 473 517 400 4 tests last one was done with the red sea hanna on the others
Mg 1320
dKh 8.4

going to retest tomorrow on Ca before dosing it, Hanna not to predictable I see

Well, every now and then you just have one of those...ima moron moment, I been doing the hanna checker CA test completely wrong, I've watched the videos from hanna on how to achieve the results but the brain went into space, so today while rig crew is eating lunch I watched Mr. Saltwater Tank, and there's my problem, I have been adding 10ml of ro/di water plus 1ml of reagent, plus .1 ml of tank water so I have 1 ml more of liquid than I should, so I'll do more testing tonight.......drrr

Tested Ca and got 586 with the hanna..........this is getting to me.....
9ml of ro/di water
1ml regin
insert into checker
.1ml tank water
1 pack regin
insert
am I missing something?

Take water to your lfs. Have them test your ca. Just to make sure your tester is faulty. Then call Hanna and see what they recommend . Maybe the inner tube is dirty. Or the vials are dirty. Or the testers just bad.

Spoke with BRS, they told me this is a known problem with the CA marine checker, you either luck out and they are accurate or its like mine, I clean the vile before adding it to the checker each time, and clean it after each test ,BRS gave me a refund, I'll toy around with it some more and get my readings from red Sea kit, at least it's giving the same number each time, I have not dosed CA yet until my readings check out. I'll call hanna

Spoke with Rob over at hanna, they are sending me lab grade water, a new syringe and couple new viles, he said 1 of 100 call back after using this so hopefully this solves the problem.

Salinity 1.0255 Marine depot refractometer
Mg 1290 Salifert
Ca 415 405 Hanna
dKh 8.7 Hanna
Hanna sent me some DI water and a smaller syringe, that seemed to fix my problem, I only tested twice but more consistency already.

now I am beginning to worry about my clam, its partially open, mantal not fully showing, turbos have been moving it around , it will close but slowly opens with little mantal coming back out

Salinity 1.0255
Dkh 8.1 dosed 100 ml soda ash
Ca 430 after getting another 575
Mg 1290
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
I am assuming this is whats got my clam doing not so hot, its closing and opening but the mantel is drawn in, it will close when I touch it, I have been feeding this tank hard to get some type of nitrates up

Why would you want any nitrates at all? Your clam be reacting to sudden changes in the water chemistry. They are used to very steady water parameters and any change can be upsetting to them.

was reading on what young clams want as far as water, they do not survive at zero nitrates, its a gonner, I dont know if its a nitrate thing or a turbo snail moving it when it was tryng to attach itself to a rock and ripping the foot, 10 days it did very well, 11th dead.
