I kept my deresa under 220w PC's with one VHO and it did just fine. After upgrading to my current lights (a couple months ago), I've noticed no difference.

i am curious as to how i can go about to monitor the clam, what to look for, and what not.

looking for tips and what not.

in the process of looking for lights. should i go 400HQI or 250HQI?

thinking bout 250HQI

julio, what light setup do u have, and if u have picks.

i'm in a dilemna bout either PFO pendants or SLS ro 3 pendants. ANd i am not sure how to really hang them, as right now i alreyad have things drilled to celing.

As far as health of clams look for the light reflexs, does it close up quickly, when you move your hand close to it or a fish that swimms by....do you have good mantle extension...

I have picks in my gallary of 250DE ushios on a acrolight fixture.....I also recently purchased a 250 DE pfo mini pendant with a 14k AC bulb for my clam tank im setting up....I would go either way with the SLS or pfo....both are excelent....just go with the best deal you find....there are some bargans out there if you know where to look.....

mantle extension is there. it is NOT A LOT though liek some i've seen, it is only a few days old, so i will see.

it extens about 3/4 - 1/2 extened mantle from the shell

I keep my Derasa under 4 55W PC's. It has grown a 1/2 in 6 weeks I also have a Squamosa under the same lighting with no problems

k bump... update..

i am curius what i can do to make the (mouth bristle) like thing open more? i notice one side that reacts to light, that side opens, and i hae mantle extension. i also notice the derasa moving ands pinning and sometimes the glass is exposed.. over all it seems good, reacts to light and has extension. i just curious as to why it may not be opening its siphon? or i dk the term as much as i see others..

I have a hqi fixture with One 150 watt de and 2 t8 's You'll be fine espesially with a deresa those are deeper dwelling like squamosa clams ,I also have a crocea but I keep it close to the top of the tank he's grown a little but has colored up quite a bit. If you plan on getting Sps I would go with 250 de though My sps do ok they just look a little flat as far as color goes . Make sure u run a lot of carbon too that will help the light penetrate as good as it possibly can.

i notice at times it would blow and move and thus exposing the glass .. it opens up and receeds at times, and opens and extends mantle again.

i hope its doing good, its about 3 weeks or so now..

you know you you have a a good clam when:

it eats its vegetables, does its HW and doesnt talk back..

sorry couldnt help it

today i found somethign wierd bout it

i was able to sit around a while longer after feeding cycloppeze (freeze dreid)

i found my clam sneezing, like it would suck in and open the mouthg? (gap part) big and what not. after about 2 or so, he is not regular and open, mantle extension and what not.

seems wierd.. but he seems okay..

okay its been a few weeks, and i believe i see new growth of the clam shell. i see great extension in the mantle, yet the thing that bothers me, is this clam moves and today i found it falling side ways... i had to readjust it and it extended its mantle again...

You and I are in pretty much exactly the same situation. Deresa clam, about three weeks old. Mine is on the sand bed too and does the inhaling and 'sneezing' thing.

Being my first clam I don't know what to think.

it should be okay as long it reacts, extends and open.. i have really shallow sand, so mine tips over and moves from time to time.. i move it back towards corner leaning on rock and it seems okay...
