BB are meant to run alot of flow I have 1300gph in my 15g try that with sand, the flow keeps the detrius suspended for your skimmer to take out of the water column, they are not for everyone they are a lot of work till every thing settles in and are much harder to keep parameters stable, but in the end for me it is all worth it
