1st reef tanks...looking for stock on a tight budget

Hello all-

Very informative site, I have learned much since I first checked ya'll out.

I'm now working with Daniel from the RC , and he mentioned this would be a good place to get help on stocking my reefs. I'm working on a zookeeper budget with four youngins at the house, and would like to get the most bang for the buck if possible.

I've acquired a 72 bow front from Mike D. who worked with me at the zoo. Its stocked with 40+ lbs Fiji rock and a few Pacific fish. The rock has a lot of purple on it, but not much for other inverts. I have found a few small purple mushrooms, some greenish\blue sponge, and some orange\maroon anemone(pests??). There is still lots of surface that can be filled. I hope to stick with a Pacific theme if I can help it. If anyone has any freebees or frags they can part with for cheep I'd greatly appreciate it.

Also, I'm looking for extra small frags to add to my 2.5 gal. Florida\Caribbean tank. Its stocked with four pounds of live rock with lots of coralline, some tunicates, some small stony corals, and a couple types of macro-algae, but can probably support a few additions.

I plan to join the RC and attend the next meeting, I can catch ya'll there, or would love to meet anyone before then.

Let me know If anyone can help.
Thanks much!

Keith

I don't know if you've been trolling the forums in the past couple of days, but I know Gary has some frags here. Gary has some nice stuff, and in any case, you should get over to see his tanks before he takes 'em down.

I also have a few more left here.
I also have a couple of little lemnalia (kenya tree) frags that would make good nano frags if you're interested.

Thanks Brian. I still ahve most of what is posted.

Brian, are those Kenya trees Lamnelia sp, or Capnella sp.? Most are Capnella, but EBay's had alot of Lamnelia lately, and they are similar to Kenya trees, but nicer colors (not just brown), so I wasn't sure. I'd like one if it is Lamnelia (purplish or yellowish, etc.).

DMBillies I got some things from DMBillies last week and am very pleased everything is doing good so far thanks Brian
Gary the kenya tree is one of the purple color one I saw it while I was picking up my stuff

Gary... I was told it was lemnalia when I got it... of course that doesn't mean much. It is the standard brownish/reddish color that most "kenya trees" I've seen are. I tried searching the other night to verify the name and the first few links that came up all looked like the brown ones, so I thought I had it. Perhaps you are right and it is a capnella. I've seen the ones that Ebay has had lately and they are pretty nice... but definitely not what I have :)

Here's my Kenya Tree under PCs when I first got it...

I ended up getting a Finnex 4x24 watt T5 HO light. The reflector sucks. It doesn't even compare to the reflector in my PC hoods. They have more of a mirror finish. But, I still like the color better now and it was $50 cheaper than the current Nova. But I was gonna say now, the Kenya tree looks to have a more purple color to it under the new lights.

Brian-

Could you set me up with a variety lot (multiples and assorted sizes)? I like all you have offered, just don't know what is promised out to others.

I plan on picking up some more specific literature on inverts today.
Do you or most of the reef keepers mix different locality corals in their tanks, or keep local specific reefs?

I was hoping to keep separate regions in my tanks if possible.
I'd prefer larger Indo\Pacific frags and smaller Atlantic\Caribbean frags.

Thanks for any help-

Keith
