Hi everyone. I live in squirrel hill and have spend many $$$$ at Elmers and Seahorse and some at Oddballs and Aquaworld but yesterday I went to Wet Pets. I must admit that I was very impressed. It is the only fish store that doesn't smell like a fish store. There tanks are extremely clean. They had some fish that I haven't seen at other stores. I ended up purchasing a mated pair of pictilus anthias on impulse. I went to wet pets in search of coral for my 10 week old 90 gallon tank. My only fish were tank-raised clowns I have had for a month. I was waiting until my tank is at least 6 months to add more fish. I was focusing only on corals. I saw these pink/yellow fish and was told they are hardy and peaceful and I really liked them so I bought them. Does anyone else have this breed? I can't find much info about them by searching google.

In order to best acclimate them to tank life, you really should feed them smaller feedings about 4 times a day. Eventually you can step down to 2, then a single feeding, but a lot of anthias require the frequent feedings early in tank life to adjust successfully.

wetpets does have a nice selection of fish..BUT other then the small new frag tank they added their coral prices are crazy. I saw 1 orange ric for $99, a frogspawn for $200+ and many other things that are just 6x what they should cost..The new frag tank they added seems like it could be a very good thing if they keep the prices at 29.99 and keep getting decent frags in.

Anthias are tough fish. A lot of times they are so starved by the time they get to our tanks that they never start eating and die off. Getting them to eat off the bat is key. I usually QT anthias for that exact reason. I found it easier to feed them when they were in isolation rather than in the display where they had to compete against the other fish for the food/territory, fight the flow, etc...
I used to have 3 Bartlett Anthias (lost them in a prolonged power outage) and started off offering them food 4 times a day. Then once they had fattened up and were eating on a regular basis, I moved them from QT to the display. Once they were in the display they were fed 3 times a day for a few weeks, then I stepped down to my normal tank feedings for them.
