2 clams dead within a week of each other

I just had two clams die on me. One was fairly large (5-6") and was a brownish color with vivid thin vertical stripes. Got it from a friend so not sure exactly the type. The other I believe was a small ORA Maxima. I noticed the larger one was suddenly closed up one day and his flesh was not covering the lips of the clam anymore (the mantle?). The very next day I tried to move him to better lighting (from under a 175mh to a 400mh) and his body was sloshing around inside the shell...clearly gone. This clam had lived for many months quite happy in my tank with no issue.

I then started watching my little Maxima who has had issues staying upright but always seemed to be opened and reasonably healthy. The day after the bigger clam died I noticed the little one also was now barely ajar and his flesh was receding off of the lips. Now only a small bit of blue was lining 2 little dips. I picked him up and looked inside and there wasn't much in there anymore.

What the heck killed my clams?? Could they have starved somehow? I actually tend to overfeed my tanks. And they were both under hallides. The bigger one under about 150 par and the little one even more as it was under the 400.

I'm wondering if it was some sort of disease as they both died so quickly and together. I checked for snails...none on the shells at all. I do use Phosban so there is GFO about.

Very frustrating!

very hard to guess at the problem after death, did you have any pictures of the clams????

please......

list your fish / inverts??

water parameters??

what and how you dose??

can you post a pic of the tank??

Clams have been removed and disposed of already. But the big one was sloshing around in the shell and smelled pretty bad. Didn't really think to inspect him when I disposed of him.

After the little one died I started becoming skepticle. I closely examined him for the snails and any kind of worms or bugs. None to be seen. I had a temperature issue about a month ago where my tank dropped to 72 degrees overnight. And then once the pump got turned back on was re-established back to 78-80 within a minute or two. Hindsight told me that was way too fast. But panic is a determined motivator! At any rate that seemed so long ago i didn't think it could be related. Especially with them dying back to back.

Params are all normal...
Ca-460
KH-8
Salinity-1.026
No3-10
Phosphate-0
Mg-1300
Temp-swings from 77-80 night to day. (This may be a little too far a swing).

I suspect some sort of parasite or bug.

Hey Joel, that larger clam you had was a Derasa.
I gave him that clam a few months ago.

Strange thing is that my Derasa died 2 weeks ago. I've had him for nearly a year. He was big at about 6 inches. I have 4 other clams that have not been affected.
All my parameters are normal with no abnormal swings.
I inspected him and found no pests.

How long do Derasa's and other clams live in a tank?
