2 clown fish pairs

I have 3 pairs in my 300. A Saddleback pair in a carpet anemone that live in the end of the penninsula, an ocellaris pair in a GBTA that live in the middle, and a maroon clown pair that live in a RBTA at the other end. They have all been in there for at least 4 years with no issues. They all eat together with the rest of the fish, then go back to their "spot" to hang out. Maybe its the other fish in the tank that range from 1" to over a foot that keep them from getting agressive. No idea.

It can be done but is uncommon at the least. Probably in your case because they have their own home they feel secure. However my friend with the 550 had it set up with each having their own anemone and it did not work. Of course one pair was GSM. And tank size clearly is an issue. Larger (longer) tanks increase the likelihood of it working.

A non-aggressive pair of maroons is practically unheard of! Maybe being much smaller than other inhabitants is the key, but I have seen them harass larger fish before. A very unusual success you have there

My maroons are GSM's, and pretty big too. When all of the clowns were in their own tanks, they were mean. You couldn't put your hand in any of their tanks. Now that they're in the 300, they all are really mellow. Come to think of it, all of the fish in that tank are pretty mellow/friendly. I haven't been bit or poked when neck deep cleaning the tank. Lucky me I guess.

I kind of lucked into it. I didn't know that clowns would be violent towards each other. I wouldn't have tried it if I had known. I guess I never really researched anything about clowns due to them being the old "go to" for reef/fish tanks.

:) That suits your user name then!

LOL, Pure Luck is the name of one of my fishing boats, but I guess it fits here too. I usually over research everything because I don't want to hurt/kill any of my pets. I even leave the blinds open on the window on one side of my 300 to promote algae growth on the rocks. It works, and my fish can graze all day. It isn't the prettiest, but it looks natural and my fish are fat and happy. They keep it pretty short and under control though.
