2' cube build has officially started!

I have been watching that thread. I like his design, but I want to go topless :cool: :rollface: Scott does some incredible work. While I was at his shop picking up my tank he was working on a 450 gallon that weighed in near 600lbs. It was amazing.

Also, I think I have FINALLY found a calcium reactor for this tank. The same person who made my tank came up with this small reactor. I am in line to purchase one. I need to put that Aquacontroller Jr. to work!

I do not have any more pictures of the reactor, but here is what the designer said about it when he debuted it on our local board.

"Almost done ! I am stoked about the design. It is all hard piped on the suction side with integrated bubble counter just like the big boys. On the output side I have had to use some flex tube because of the cost of the 1/8" bushing - BUT - I have found a way to include an IN LINE pH PROBE PORT that is integral to the reactor plumbing - not some add on gadget. That is a feature that doesn't exist on any reactor that is even remotely as small as this one ! This has been a tough one to design - I have had to make several of the fittings myself from stock pvc, but I think I have a reactor that is truly one of a kind for it's size. "

He is still waiting on a few fittings to finish it up.

I am debating on buying a t5 setup for this tank. I am just not sure if I will be happy with it and if it will support sps, clam and anenomes if I chose to go that route. Plus, how do the actinics look?

I am looking at possibly getting the Tek 24" 6 bulb setup. I believe the bulbs are 24w.


Over the last few days I have filled all the nail holes and put two coats of spray on polyurethane. I need to put several more on this weekend. Over the weekend I am going to take down my 90 gallon freshwater and clean it up to post if on the bst forum, then I need to paint behind the tank so I can move the new tank in.

I am going to have a full weekend, but the anticipation keeps me moving forward!
 
Well, it really is not going to be a nano. It is going to have a total water volume of around 80 gallons with the sump. I also just like the idea of not having to dose and I do not trust a kalk reactor.
 
I finally was able to put some water in the tank today for an initial leak test. I spent about 7 hrs between today and yesterday trying to plumb this thing. Man was it ever a chore. I think I totalled 6 trips to Home Depot.

I have one leak that I have not been able to fix. It looks like it is coming out of the union, but I am not sure. I am going to look at it a little closer tomorrow. I also can not tell if I am getting micro bubbles or not because I still have paper on the outside of the tank. I am paranoid about getting a scratch in it.

I should be getting my pendant (Reef Optix 1)in the mail tomorow. I opted to go with this until I can afford a MH/T5 combo!

I am hoping to get the tank moved into my room tomorrow afternoon when I get off of work. We will see.

that ca reactor scott is building is pretty sweet. The level of craftsmanship is amazing...he's probably going to be able to price it well enough to make it competitive with adding 2 part in tanks over 20 gallons : ) btw, very nice tank build...makes me want to get a nano.
 
I think I am 1st in line for the nano reactor Scott is building! :) I am very excited about getting it, hopefully in the next month!

The tank Scott built you looks awesome and the setup will be awesome!

I picked up my rock this afternoon from FedEx. All I can say is that I am pretty impressed with the rock. There is a ton of coraline on the rock, but that is hard to see in these pictures. I can not wait to find out what hitch hikers came along. I already found one, but it was a DOA and thank goodness it was. It was a HUGE crab that i had to surgically remove with a screwdriver. I could not get it back out of the hole it went in.

The rock smeled horrible, but I am pretty sure most all of that was from the dead crab. Once that was removed the smell was not nearly as bad. I am going to try to aquascape the tank tomorrow afternoon and get the AQ Jr programmed and running.
 
Sorry it has been so long since I have updated with pictures. I have been pretty busy. I decided to do a "complete room makeover" when I brought the tank in. I have been pulling down border and preping my room to paint.

I have been having one problem with my closed loop system. Some times the pump will stop pushing water, but you can hear the motor still spinning. I have to turn the pump off and then back on to get it work. This does not always work. Sometimes I have to partially close a few ball valves to get it pumping water again. Any ideas?

that looks really good. i can not wait to see it with corals. by the way, some of the corals you will be adding look really nice. have you had trouble with the sand getting caught in your loc-line sockets? did you have trouble bending them after you put sand over them?

might wanna take the pump out and clean it, from the photos looks like it was outta commision for a while check your seals and the impeller
