2 Dead Corals

I have a 5" acro on a peice of a rock and a small .5" peice of a monti that grew onto the same rock. I'm sorry I dont know the specific names of each. It seems that almost over night both peices on that rock are dead, completely white. My temp is 79, and my lights are about 5 months old, they are 4 VHO's over a 55. Every thing else in the tank looks great the other SPS, the LPS and all of the softies. What would cause the two on the same rock to die and nothing else. I have not added any new peices in about 6 months. I will post perams when I get home. I do have some asterinas, but they have been there for years and never bothered any thing. They ar kind of close to some dunkens, but they don't touch.

NEw or old pieces? I recently had a maricultured piece die slowly after 4 weeks I even fragged it up and it still slowly died mutha........ I think one of the worst feelings besides losing a fish that I have experienced in this hobby/addiction. How close do you follow your regimens in dosing and w/c? I am following along to see what happens. GL oh is the flow real close to the corals?

In the 55 I do a 5-10 gallon water change once a week, the only thing I really dose is calcium and that is only when it begins to drop. With the water changes and not a heavy load of SPS, my calcium, mag and other levels stay very even. The acro I had for about 9 months and the monti has been in over a year. The peice of the monti that died is a small peice that grew on to the rock. The monti mother coloni looks great.

What about your "big 3" levels: alkalinity, calcium and magnesium? I'm not asking are they good, I'm asking for the specific values. Lots of people say "My water is fine" but either don't actually test or are not aware of what decent values for those items are.

Calc is at 460, alk is 8.5. I don't have a mag test. Trite, trate, phos 0. Thinking about now though, kits are a little old. I will test at a friends house in the morning to confirm.

Lots of calcium and dandy alkalinity. Good job. I would recommend testing or having tested your magnesium. I had issues with my birdsnest rtn'ing and turned out my mag was ultra low.
