I have a 40 gallon breeder tank . As of now it is a FOWLR tank. I test my water pretty frequently and I tested it this morning after I noticed 2 of my damsels swimming really weird and looking like they were gasping for breathe. Ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrates 0. 3-4 hours after first waking up and noticing them swimming weird one was dead being ripped apart by the other fish. And the other dead underneath one of the rocks. What could have caused this? All the other fish and inverts look healthy

Do you quarrantine your incoming fish?

Do you treat for parasites or disease before putting them in the tank?

How do you acclimate the fish to your tank?

I wouldn't personally buy another one until you know what caused their death.
Was there any physical or behavioral symptoms? were they eating? what other fish in the tank? how long have you had them? what fish was tearing it apart?
could be from a parasite in which case you should try to figure out what and get it out of your system before adding new fish or something else like maybe lack of 02; SG not correct ect.
Damsels are usually known to be pretty hardy so my educated guess would be some kind of parasite.
