2 Hydra 26 for 75g

Hello all,

Currently having temp. issues with my Coralife 4 (ATI bulb) t5 fixture on my 75g tank. Temp hovers around 83 when the lights are on in the summer, I also have glass lids so my snowflake eel stays in. I can try and put a fan by my sump but was thinking of switching to led's.

Would 2 Hydra 26's be enough light? I have mainly LPS with some of the easier SPS to start with. Are the Hydra's worth it? I won't have to spend $100 every 9 to 10 months on bulbs and the heat issue should go away.

I think you can get away with it fine, but you might have to play with the height to get the cerage. I have two hydra52 on my 110g n it works for me. Mine is about 10inches above the water.

If you have glass lids I would not expect any heat from your bulbs reaching your water.

I thought an open top or eggcrate would disperse the heat and not trap it in?

I have 2 26's on my 75 with SPS and everything is doing great. Nothing goes above 45% intensity. I could see if you had a very heavily populated SPS tank needing more to cover any shadowing.

I have two Hydra 26's on my 120 and Love them! So, I think you will be just fine for your 75 gallon. Just an FYI though, Aqua illuminations was demoing the new HD Hydras at MACNA last weekend they look really cool. They basically have the director built into them and each channel won't have a fixed amount of power. Meaning you can "borrow" power from other colors you are not using as much power from. Might be worth waiting for those to come out since you won't have to pay an extra $100 for the director

So far i like the lights and my corals look good and i do see good growth on them for only using them for about 3months...bout only time will tell..i keep sps, lps n fish..

If u have tops on your heat sourse must be your return pump, skimmer pump and other pumps. Shut your lights off for a day and check your temp. Would hate to see u spend all that money and still have the same issue.
