2 juvenile emperors in the same tank

I was considering adding 2 juvi emperors in the same tank. Would they grow up to be a pair, or would they fight?

I saw a LFS try to do this once, with 2 new arrivals. they instantly were attacking each other. These are very territorial fish, even as juvis and I doubt there is a home tank big enough to accommodate 2 territories. I tried an juvi emperor and a similar looking juvi blueface once----that lasted about 2 mins.

Went back to the LFS, where they had the 2 juvi emperors. Both had died. I am glad I didn't get either one the 1st time I was in there, they didn't look right to me, so I asked him to hold them and I would be back in a week.

Anyway, thanks for your responses. I will forgo the idea of 2 juvis. I still will get one, however. :)

Didn't copps pair a couple emp's? Might want to search for the thread...

I have pair in my 300 with no problems. One is much much larger and changing, the other is smaller and was showing no signs of changing when it was added.

I just added the small one six weeks ago. My big guy/girl has been in the tank for about 2 years maybe longer, I will have to check my records.

not the best photo in the world :)

I did it with a large adult and a very small juvy, they where best of friends swam together all the time until my adult came down with something and died. Which was tough since I grew him from a juvenile. I ended up selling the juvy and went in another direction.

Thanks. Too bad the thread ended with basically one emperor on one side of the tank and the other on the the other, separated by egg crate. I think I'll bump the thread and see how it all turned out.

They are on the same side of the egg crate now per copps. I'm sure when he gets some time he can chime in.

Whoa--2 years! You must be a patient man for the color change. I know the emps are a bit slow in that category. My Majestic (fortunately) went from blue ringed 2 incher to 4 inch adult colors in 9 months.

Have you tried feeding New Life Spectrum? That really started to move things along with my Majestic.

My 3 inch juvi grew to 8 inch adult in about 22 months, still has a few blue stripes (like 2 or 3) around the top of his head in the yellow area, but all circular pattern has disappeared. This was the first time I was able to raise a juvi to full adulthood, on my 3rd try. He is on a 125G with a blue tang that grew at about the same pace and a couple of ocellaris clowns, a coral beauty (whom he chases whenever he sees it), a six line wrasse and a flame hawkfish. He grunts a lot chasing the blue tang. I was going to buy another inhabitant, probably a B&W Heniochus, but since everybody is doing so well, I'm afraid of disturbing the balance.

I like the juvie colors so it worked out :)

He gets New Life Spectrum, TDO, as well as frozen mysis daily. Also gets squid and clams on the half shell about three times per week. In addition to what ever else I feed that week.
