2 males vs 2 females

I have a 20 gal tank thats been up and running for a few months now and i feel its ready to handle some sea horses. i plan on getting a pair of H. fuscus due to their smaller size. I do not want the responsibility of rearing young so i do not want to go with a male AND a female. So would i be better off with 2 females or 2 males?

Either way. Perhaps 2 females wouldn't show the pouch crunching behavior that 2 males would, even to one another. Either pair would make a lovely addition. :)

You could also go with a pair M/F and just choose not to raise the fry, and should you change your mind one day have that option.

i dont think i have the heart to watch those fry be born then get sucked into my filter... ill go with 2 females. thanks jag

I'd recommend two females bc you won't have to deal with any pouch issues that may arise with males.

If you did on accident end up with a male and female there are plenty of people that would be willing to pay for overnight shipping to take those fry off your hands :) such as myself

darnt! seahorse source did not update their site and are out of fuscus... anyone know when they typically become available or of another source?

I searched high and low for months for fuscus and didn't find them. Well, I did, sort of, and ordered them, and then the guy put me off for weeks, charged my credit card and now won't return emails or phone calls.... :mad2:

Anywho, I wound up getting 2 female erectus from a local source and they are something like 4th generation CB and are wonderful. I would contact your LFS and see if they work with any local breeders. I was actually able to go to the guy's house, see his set up, and pick my girls. :p

im not aware of another source for fuscus but it'd be worth the wait for seahorse source. Dan and Abbie are great. Did they give you a time frame on when they'd have more?

I think Seahorse Source is rearing juveniles of many of their species at the moment, and are expected to have seahorses available soon. They will be worth waiting for, although I can understand your disappointment. Better that they get to you nice and healthy, though...

When I asked about fuscus Abbie said spring.
