2 Mature Clowns in a Biocube 14g??

Is it an ok move to purchase 2 already mated mature pair and place them in a Biocube 14g with a BTA with nothing else?

Yes, that is acceptable. I wouldn't get any more fish though, a mated pair of clowns can get pretty agressive when kept in a smaller tank.

I, personally, wouldn't put an E. Quadricolor (( or any hosting anemone for that matter )) in a 14 gallon tank.

You should be fine with percs, ocellaris, and skunks. I would not put a pair of maroons in a 14g.
+1 but larger is always better. We could lock you in your bedroom for the rest of your life and as long as we cleaned up from time to time and fed you, you'd live but you'd be happier in a gymnasium. Not bashing... just saying.

Let me clarify what I said. I said they would be fine, not that they would thrive. I've never had my clowns in anything smaller than a 18g quarantine.

Again; Not bashing. Just saying. I quarrantine mine in 10 gallons and have had them in tanks that size for a year or more... but tomato complex and saddleback complexes outgrow a ten gallon quickly. A mature clarkii complex would not do well for long either.

There is a clown breeder on another reef website I go on and he has kept a spawning pair of clowns in a 5 gallon cube and they were happy. He did that with a couple pairs, each with their own 5 gallon cube. My point is, a 14 gallon is perfectly fine for a spawning pair, however bigger is better and I wouldn't put any other fish in the tank with the clowns. Just keep up weekly water changes, feed the right amount, etc. and they'll be happy. :)

There is nothing wrong with a 14g for Ocellaris, skunk, and percula clowns. They will be fine. I keep my pairs in standard 10 gallon tanks. Like Todd said, it is questionable for a hosting anemone though. You may have problems keeping parameters stable in such a small volume of water.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I will attempt a mature pair in my 14g tank along with a BTA. Updates will be provided when possible.

You do realize that an BTA (( E. Quadricolor )) will get too big for a 14 gallon tank, and is a poor choice -- as is any hosting anemone.

Why ask advise if you're going to do ignore it anyway? The fact that you asked indicates that you already had hesitation about the idea.... You HAVE been warned. Best of luck that when the anemone melts that it doesn't kill everything else along with it.

WDLV,
I understand what you're saying and I do appreciate it. I will reconsider the BTA and wait a bit to see if there is anyone who's had a success with it. If it comes to it, I'll get a bigger tank....an OC Biocube 29 most likely.

i hope you're planning to do a light upgrade if you're using a biocube. I can't imagine a BTA, or any nem for that matter, thriving under the crappy PC lights in those things. I had a 29g for a while and ended up taking the hood off and putting a MH fixture over it.

It's just an advice and he can ignore it.

Just saying.

iClown,
You will surely find someone out there if you look hard enough but when you do, just consider how long they were able to maintain it and what measures they took to keep it alive. I do have a friend who kept a RBTA and a pair of tomatos in a ten gallon with a clay flower pot, a heater, a strip light and a bio-wheel for filtration for a good six months and it did live all that time, but he had a lot of experience as a reefer/breeder and I really don't know if it eventually died or if he moved it or what. I'm just saying that I and probably a few others would advise you to just add a couple softies that are known good substitute hosts.

duncantse,
Fish much?

Ok, I'll steer away from the BTA to dodge future complications. I will definitely try the soft corals after doing some more research. If it wasn't for the comments i would've definitely gone and purchased a BTA. Thanks again to all.

Clowns also like lps like frogspawn, open brain, and elegance coral. I would steer away from the elegance and try something like a frogspawn or hammer or torch coral.
