2 orchid dottybacks in JBJ 28?

I have a much larger tank, so it's not at all the same. But I have a wild pair of Frimandi which made a home where they are unviewable. So I bought 2 more. They each found a seperate home about 4" from each other in the tank --- Also unviewable un;ess standing at the end of the tank and looking along the bottom of the back wall of the tank.

Interesting. Were the pair a true pair or just two introduced together? Any mating behavior?

They shipped into the country in the same bag. They went into my tank in the same bag. They moved in to the same cave together.
But they are impossible to see. They live under a rock spire which is about 45lbs and is almost 24" tall and about 3" diameter. They live under the base on the bottom of the tank (bare bottom) but they live facing the back wall of the tank. The spire rock sits in the middle of the tank (Front to back 33") and the back wall of the tank is covered in slab rock.
So when they do come out during feeding time they dart out to the back of the tank and stay on the bottom.
So catching a glimpse of them is a real challenge, you have to kneel down and watch under the rock trying to see the back side of it.
So not sure if there is any mating behavior but they are living together.
The third and fourth that I added were just two individuals that I picked up and added at the same time. And strangely they found homes just 4" apart from either on the rock back wall, but at the very bottom of the tank.

I've introduced several pairs together by adding new individuals to established individuals, They allways pair and always spawn. Awsome reef fish!!!!
I use an isolation container for at least a week to acclimate the individuals and then let the new one go. I always add a smaller individual to the established fish. They will change sex, if needed, this can take some time and cuase aggresion but even then I've seen succes in pairing.
I think you can do a pair in a 28, just be slow with t eintroduction, isolate at least a week. I'm hoping to add a second pair to my 150 soon.
