hey so i recently picked up a tank that was drilled with center overflow, the thing is it has a 2" overflow hole.... and a 1 inch return im happy with the return but cant think of why they did a 2" can anyone help me out here and let me know there thoughts

Leave it at 2". No chance of a flood that way. I have a 1.5" standpipe feeding my skimmer and a 2" backup.

I agree - i have 2 x 2" overflows in mine - MUCH better to have way more drainage than return - blocking your drain line = flood/burned up return pumps/fried heaters/bad bad bad

I have 2-2" overflows on my 240 and wouldn't consider anything smaller.
Like it has already been said, little chance of blocked drains.

I use durso's on my 2 drains. However there are alot of people that don't like them.
The air hole at the top has a tendency to clog, but I do my water changes every 2 weeks and other tank stuff that does include check those holes.
The only time I get any noise from my drains is when I forget to clean them(air holes) out.

It was always my understanding that you want bigger drain lines than return lines, mine are on all my tanks.
