2 Part consumption: equal?

Just wondering.

BRS videos I've seen said 2 part would be consumed at equal rates, but mine is not. My tank consumes a good bit more Ca than Alk, by a ratio of 8 to 5.

Levels are about 420/10.0.

Just curious ...

Mine aren't equal either. I dose more Ca than Alk. My ratio is 5:3 (1.6666:1). Very similar to your 8:5 (1.6:1). Levels in mine are about 450/11.

This is normal. You just need to adjust your ca a bit. Your alk and ca levels are good though. I would try to keep them stable at 420ppm and 10dkh.

I closely monitored my levels for 1 week (with no dosing)
and came up with a consumption rate for ca, alk, mag.
Once you have this consumption rate you can create a dosing
regiment that is suited to you needs.
I think this is the best way to do it.
I use alk 3:1 over ca, and mag 1.5:1 over ca.

In a perfect world they would be equal....mine is not either. It depends on the brand of salt you use, the accuacy with which you mix your 2-part, the accuracy with which you dose, etc.

Bottom line, let the test kits be the judge! (as long as they are accurate!) and as long as your corals look happy and are growing you must be doing something right.
