2-Questions on Red Bugs

Thanks. That was good, especially with the pictures. However, I wonder if there is a way to do it like you would a Revive dip...or at least the way I do a Revive dip, which is 1-litre of water and less than 10-minutes in the solution. With Melevs technique you need 2.5-gallons of water and over 2-hours. But, Melev was dipping a colony, I am talking about dipping a typical single branch frag that was just purchased. Can the coral survive a much stronger dose with much less time and of course still kill all the red bugs?
Think of it like cooking ingrediants. If you are making a meal for 2 and the recipe is for 4 you would divide the qty's of each and every ingrediant by half. So for dips with Revive and Lugols or with interceptor you just need to be sure to use the correct amount of treatment chemical in relation to the volumn of water you are working with. For example I use Lugols for my dips but I do not like to use 1 gal for a couple of tiny frags so I will tend to use say 5 cups worth of water and then just reduce the Lugols accordingly.

IMHO if you know that an infected coral made it into your tank you should treat the whole tank.

I do think of it like coolking. Revive says to mix 4-capfuls for 3.8L of water. I don't need that much water for a couple frags so I cut it in down by about 4 and use 1-capful for 1L of water.
Now with Interceptor I can't do that with Melevs link because at his dose it takes 2-hours to kill the red bugs. I'd like to hear if anybody doses way more interceptor to clean new frags and has a quicker kill off than 2-hours. I'm thinking more like a 5-minute dip....but of course, the coral needs to be able to withstand it

I have a small 1.5G pico from walmart that I use for my 2hr interceptor QT. I have a small powerhead and a heater in there, as well as eggcrate. I start with interceptor, watch the frag, then after the 2hrs, I will put in 4 caps of revive (same water) and then swish the frag(s) around for a couple minutes. Then I visually inspect and put it in my tank.

I realize that I'm still at risk for AEFW eggs, but so far I've been lucky (yes lucky) and have really inspected for anything that looks out of the ordinary. If I suspect eggs, I will frag the frag, and pitch the plug. That way I know I have a better chance of not introducing them into my system.

I'd take red bugs over just about any other SPS related problem, FWIW. I don't have any shrimp (keep a melanarus wrasse) or crabs (not a huge fan), so I can treat my entire tank pretty quickly without having to pull a bunch of inverts out.

Nice setup you got there, makes it sound pretty easy. Do you end up doing a water change that day since you are pulling over 1.5gallons of tank water out for the process or just let the sump run low until your next pwc?

1.5G doesn't affect my total volume that much - but I have been doing 1G w/c a day for about a month now, so it really isn't too much trouble now, since I have around 20+ gallons of sw mixed up at any time.

If I don't add sw back in, my ato will fill it back up. Either way, it is pretty easy for me to replenish water.
