2 questions re: pumps & flow

Has anybody used the "Squid" wavemaker? I saw some positive and some negative remarks but most were kind of old. Noise is a big factor for me - I hate it!

I am thinking about using one in my next tank which will probably be a 24X24X18 cube with an additional 6"or maybe 8" X24"external overflow across the back. I would put the Squid in the center chamber with 2 loc-line outputs.

I am also trying to get opinions on pumps. I have had Mags before, a 7 and a 9, and I found them to be noisy after a while. does anyone use a large Eheim or Eco pump. I want something submersible, again into the center chamber, which will feed the Squid. I would like a little more oomph than the Eheim generates, though, since the Squid cuts down on flow by 30%.

I'm just starting to kick this stuff around so any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks - Laurie

Haven't used a SCWD, but have used Eheims. My current one (1262) is very quiet, and puts out more oomph than the flow chart suggests -- for whatever reason Eheim underrates their pumps significantly. VERY superior to Mag pumps -- worth the added expense.

I constructed a closed loop for my 55 about a year ago using a scwd and a mag 12. I have been very happy with the setup, but if I were to change anything I would use a real external pump instead of a mag 12. The scwd however makes very little noise and works extremely well considering the cost. You are correct in saying the scwd reduces the flow by about 30% to 50%. I highly reccommend the scwd, but would definitely steer away from a mag. Hope this helped.
