2 quick questions before I dip my new zoa's

1. From the sticky at the top of this forum: The dip calls for 1-2 drops of Lugol's per gallon of fresh water. The Kent Lugol's instructions call for 40 drops per gallon of aquarium water. Is the difference because the zoa dip is fresh water?

2. My new zoa rock also has GSP (don't much care what happens to them) and the cassic "yellow polyps". How will the dip affect these?

I saw that.

Mucho said later in a post that he uses 4-5 drops I think now.
I use 7-8 drops of Kent Lugols.
I wouldn't go much more, but you can if you want.


If those are the colonial yellow polyps, you might hope for death for them. They will sting and kill most zoanthids.
I lost most of the ones in my avatar to some.
At the very least or most, separate them.

I would make a guess that you are right about the difference of strengths of Lugols in salt vs. freshwater

Thanks for the heads up. Yes, the yellow polyps and GSP are really just part of a menagerie of polyps. All separate colonies though, so easy to chisel apart

Well good thing I dipped. All sorts of strange critters came off....long worm like things with some sort of appendages, large red flatworm looking things. Granted, probably harmless, but I'd rather not take the chance.

How much of the Lugol's did you end up using?
Did you dip in FW or SW?
I just bought some myself, and was also confused on how much to use..Any one have a suggestion for using a toothbrush to clean Zoos?
I have some hair algae that is one one of my Zoo colonies I want to remove...thanks

For acros I used the recommended 40 drops per gallon in Salt Water, plus some FWE.

For zoa's, (and palys I guess some of them are) I used about what is recommended in the dip "sticky" in this forum, maybe a bit more, plus FWE, in pH and temp compensated Fresh Water. Everything is doing fine....in fact, here are some pics I took tonight:
