i been thinking abought picking up these 2 items and running them inline with eachother,

a phosban reactor for media storage and then from there to a u/v sterilizer,

are u/v sterilizers really necassary for a reef tank and does any one use them? and does any one use the phos ban reactors?

i have a 65 gallon tank with a 20 gallon fuge,

thanks for your input guys

I don't have any experience with phosban but I know that the UV sterilizer is definately optional. Are you using RO/DI? You will have less algae with the sterilizer but you will also have more heat and less live natural food available to your reef. Any larvae from your fuge that pass through the sterilizer will be zapped. I would suggest using RO/DI water and getting a clean up crew with some turbos, hermits, ect. This will usually eliminate most algae problems and with your refugium running, there should be very little excess nutrients in the water. The UV will help, you just have to weigh the pros and cons.

Along the same half topic.... I have a 25g QT that I was thinking of putting a UV sterilizer on. Is that a good Idea and what would be a recommended size UV?

toney thanks for the info
