2 sailfin tangs in 1 tank

Is that for your 90g tank, tboy? The tank size suggestion thread for tangs recommends that a Sailfin Tang should be housed in a tank that is at least 240g (with 8 feet in length). If it's for the 90g, then you shouldn't be putting in one Sailfin tang let alone two. I would like to have a Sailfin Tang in my 90g, but my research has shown that it shouldn't be put in such a small tank. Others with personal experience should chime in.

Agreed. Prepare to bring one of them back immediately before putting it in the tank. Otherwise you will end up with a dead one in short order.
The fuge isnt the issue. Its the space of the tank. They need long distances of swimming room. And will get agressive if feeling crammed.
If you want sailfin tangs, then set up a 240 gallon tank. No way around it. You can plan on gettign a bigger tank, but you would need to start setting it up now. I know people would like to find a way around it, but there isnt one. Each fish has certain requirements. Would you put a great dane in a crate designed for a pomeranian?
Would you feel comfortable living in a 4x4 room for the rest of your life?

You may want to read this thread in the New to Hobby Forum, where a reefer put 5 yellow tangs in a 200g tank. After six months, they are now slowly killing each other off.

As mentioned above, no, it will have no impact. The issue is size in the display, not total water volume.
To put it bluntly, that's a terrible idea.
Tangs are not rare, wait until you have the bigger tank, then get the tangs. Most of them are not rare, you can get them at any time. I'll refrain from my usual full lecture about the fact that the vast majority of planned upgrades never happen (especially since it doesn't sound like this one is even planned).

Zebrasoma genus Tangs almost always go to war when kept in pairs. For some reason, the can do well in groups of 3+ (in very large tanks); but as others have said, your tank is about half of what just one needs. Why do I have the feeling this has already been done? Everything ever written says the same thing about tangs, are you just looking for the one exception?

It sounds like the OP bought the first sailfin and then someone gave him a second sailfin (perhaps they didn't realize that the OP had purchased one himself). So now he will have two sailfin tangs in the 90g tank and he wanted to know if this was acceptable. Unfortunately, the OP may not have asked originally if a solo Sailfin tang is acceptable in a 90g. Even if he had, there are plenty of people on RC who will post that it is acceptable especially if it is small.

I started with a tiny sailfin tang in my original 55. When i say tiny, i mean silver dollar size. I knew going in that the fish would outgrow this tank and wasn't worried since I had plans for a larger FOWLR in the future. What I didn't expect was how soon the future would come:lolspin: 6 months later I was setting up a 210 in the basement for her. She lives in it with 3 other fish and there is not any way that this fish could thrive in anything smaller. When the 210 turns into a 10 foot long tank, I may try to move my purple tang in with her, but I would not consider trying it in anything smaller as she has proven aggressive with a grouper that competes with her for food. Two sailfins would pretty much always be a bad idea, although I have seen a pacific sailfin and a redsea sailfin kept together in a 2000 gallon tank.

A unicorn tang would be inappropriate for a 300 gallon tank let alone a 175 gallon tank. Why not buy fish for the tank you have? And why do you think they love each other?
