Have a 40 breeder with a maroon clown and a sailfin tang. Bought the tang about a month ago. Has been battling ich on and off eats well and it don't seem to bother him. The clown has never had any signs if it. The tang tolerates freshwater dips well has gone up to 8 min. There are some soft corals in the 40 so I can't treat. Same with the 125 no ich in that tank. Hypo and copper scare me, and I don't have an extra tank anyway. I doesn't do much good to dip and put him right back into the infected tank. Is it possible to dip him and put him into the 125? That isn't infected. Does the dip wash off the parasites. Never had to deal with ich before. Thanks.

The only way to cure it is to setup a QT and quarantine all the fish for 4+ weeks and leave the DT free of fish for that time. With the display tank having no hosts for the ich parasites they will completely die out during that time. So once you have your fish done and cured of ich you can put them back into your DT and be ich free forever as long as you always quarantine all new animals.

Setting up a QT is easy and can be cheap. Go on craigslist and get a small tank around 20gal or so. A lot of the listings include the pump/heater/etc. Shouldnt cost you more than around $30-$50 which will save you a lot of money in the long run because you wont be losing fish to diseases.

Again, the fallow period for ich is 72 days not four weeks.

Recommend reading the stickies at the top of this forum regarding treatment options for cryptocaryon (ich).

+1 Read the stickies. I would do TT with clown and tang and put into the 125 for the duration of running the other one fallow for 72 days. Where you planning on leaving the tang in the 40 gallon?
